Chapter 2: Darkness of the past

Another day has passed, it's still the same for Suryeon, waking up in the morning, cooking her own breakfast and getting ready for work. It has been her routine and she already got used to it. She has been living like this for almost half of her life. Since the day she chose to leave. She was staring blankly to her window when her phone vibrated.

Ma'am, your sister is here at your company, should I let her in or not?

A text message from her secretary. Suryeon replied yes. And quickly headed to her company. She safely parked her car and rode the elevator. When she was about to go inside the elevator she bumped into someone. A man with a black hood, Suryeon helped the man from picking up the things that fell into the floor, and she apologized. She was about to stand up when she noticed a burn and a tattoo at the hand of the man. Her heart beats fast. When the man noticed that Suryeon was staring at her hand, the man walked as fast as he could. Suryeon was left frozen standing outside the elevator. A not so clear memory flashes inside her mind, she was planning to run and chase the man but an employee called her "Ma'am!" She came back to her senses. "Yes?" She asked the employee not looking at the employee but to the man who had just left. "What happened ma'am?You look so nervous. " The employee asked with concern. "Nothing. Are you going inside the elevator too?" Suryeon now faced the employee and smiled at him while asking. "Yes ma'am. Let's go. Do you want me to help you?" They went inside the elevator. "No, thank you." She replied. The employee just bowed her head as a sign of respect.

Suryeon had arrived on her floor, her secretary was waiting outside the office while her sister was waiting inside her office. "Thank you for waiting, Secretary Kang. Something had just happened earlier. Did you bring food for my sister?" She politely asked her secretary. The secretary respectfully nodded to her. And opened the door for her. "Thank you." Suryeon said.

"Eonnie!!" Seojin happily stood up and hugged Suryeon tightly. "What brings you here, Seojin-ah?" She asked while caressing her sister's hair. "I just want to treat you to a sisterly date. Wanna go with me?" Seojin asked. "I'm so sorry, Seojin-ah. I am just so busy today. I'll make it up to you next time. I can't really go today. I have a lot of appointments." Suryeon said in a sad face. Seojin showed a disappointed face but Suryeon just shrugged her head. "I'm really sorry, Seojin-ah. Your unnie is just so busy today. But I promise next time." Suryeon explained. Seojin lift up her head and hold Suryeon's hand. "Okay then. Promise me next time, huh?" Seojin pleads and Suryeon happily nods and smiles towards her sister.

"Gonna leave, unnie. Take care. Love you!" Seojin beads her goodbye.

The secretary went inside her office and gave all the documents to be signed. "Are these the only documents I have to sign today?" Suryeon said while looking at the papers to be signed. "Yes, ma'am." Secretary Kang replied. Sec. Kang was about to go out when Suryeon called her. "Ms.Kang.." "Yes, ma'am." Sec. Kang attentively replied. "I want you to collect all the CCTV records all over the area in the parking lot. No questions why. Just do it." Secretary Kang attentively nods and takes action quickly.

After reading all the documents, she stood up and went to her coffee maker and made her own coffee. She went to the big window pane of her office,thinking something. After all these years, I am still alone. And it's still the same, people only want money and power. Staring at the big poster of her own father, PRIME MINISTER SHIM.

On the other side, a man was also looking at his documents checking if everything around his company is okay. While he was busy, his father barged in. "What are you doing here, dad?" Logan asked. "Nothing, just checking if my son is still taking care of the company I left to him." His father replied. "Look, dad. You don't have to go here day by day. Checking if everything is okay. How about mom, is there any progress for her?" Logan sadly asked. "Nothing, it was still the same. After 13 years, your mother is still in a coma." The father replied. Logan went to his father's side and tapped his shoulder. "Don't worry dad, I'll make sure. Everyone who did that to mom, they will all pay for it." His father looked at his son with sad eyes. "That's my Logan. Do not ever forget who our enemies are. Do not ever forget that we are the victims here. " Logan politely nods, his father bids a goodbye, and he continues with what he was working on. He called his secretary about the ranking of his company. "What is the ranking of our company from the newly released data of this day?" The secretary bows down, Logan already knows what the answer is. "Get out!" He shouted, the secretary got scared, that's why she immediately left the office. He threw all the papers on his table. And murmured something. That Shimwoon company, I'll make sure to bring that down. He angrily said, crashing the paper he was holding. "Secretary Go!" He shouted, his secretary went inside the office "make me a coffee. Make sure that your report next time will be good or else I'll fire you." he said threatening her secretary. The secretary quickly does her work and swears to her boss that she will do better and make sure she'll give him good reports.

"You still didn't get any response, my daughter?" Prime Minister Shim asked Seojin who just got home. "I'm sorry father, I wasn't really able to convince Suryeon unnie to go here." Seojin replied. "Still the same reason, Seojin-ah. You have to make your sister come back here." Prime Minister Shim angrily said. "I'm sorry,father. I'll try to convince her next time. " Seojin said, while holding her father's hand. "Next time? There's no more next time, Seojin-ah! If you can't do it. I'll do it then. I will find people to convince her. " PM Shim replied and threw away Seojin's hand. Seojin followed and kneel down while holding her father's feet. "Please, jebal. Father, don't hurt unnie,please. I'll persuade her as much as I can. I promise. Just don't hurt her. " Seojin was begging and crying in front of her father. Her father knelt down to and touch Seojin's face. "Okay, if that's what you want. " And slightly slap Seojin's face and went out of the room angrily.

Seojin was left crying and sobbing, hugging herself alone. Calling her sister's name.

I'll make sure to protect you no matter what, unnie.....
