Where It All Started

"La-de-da-de-da!,"I sang.

I brushed my hair while trying to make dinner. Don't worry, there's no hair in the food, at least not yet anyway. I set my brush down and added some seasonings to my dinner. I was making pasta, my love.

"Pasta, pasta, pasta! Pasta, pasta, pasta!,"I chanted, childishly.

My doorbell suddenly rang, shaking me it of my lusty thoughts over pasta.

Don't judge me.

I skipped to the door and looked through my peephole, seeing my parents. I swung the door open and pulled them into a hug.

"Aw, Momma, Daddy! I missed y'all!,"I exclaimed.

"Yes, yes, we missed you too, Darling,"Mom patted my back.

"I missed you more than your mother missed you,"said Daddy, kissing my forehead.

Momma rolled her eyes and kissed my forehead as well, while I giggled at them.

"So... is that pasta I smell?,"Daddy asked, sniffing the air.

"Yep,"I grinned.

Daddy high fived me and ran into the kitchen.

You see, daddy and I share the same passion for pasta, it's in our blood. I'm not sure about mom, though.

"I swear, he's like an overgrown child sometimes,"Momma sighed.

I laughed and led her to my kitchen.

The pasta was done a few minutes later and Mom and I set the table. After getting situated and getting our servings, we sat down to eat.

"Mmm, almost as good as your mother's,"said Daddy, savoring the pasta."Um, thank you?,"I awkwardly chuckled.

"So, how've you been, Dear?,"Momma asked, taking another bite.

"Pretty okay, actually. Living life, little by little, I guess,"I shrugged, unsure of what else to say.

My life's been pretty boring.

"Are you getting situated in the hospital?,"asked Daddy.

"Oh yea! The hospital is pretty cool. I'm moving in next week,"I said, taking another bite of my oh-so-delicious pasta.

"Well, that's wonderful, Dear,"Momma smiled.

"Yep. So, how was Rio?,"I curiously asked.

"It was very beautiful, actually. Your father can be so romantic at times,"Momma said, smiling dearly at Daddy.

"Well, y'all know how I am: amazing, intelligent, handsome-,"he started.

"Don't ruin it,"Momma cut him off with a glare.

Dad nervously chuckled and went back to eating his pasta.

"So, Kaitlyn, when are you getting married?,"Momma suddenly asked.

I nearly choked on my pasta and looked at her like she just grew a watermelon on her head.

"Jeez, Momma! I'm still in my twenties. At least give me time to come out of the womb,"I exclaimed, coughing up pasta.

"Oh, please. When you were younger, you seemed to be so 'grown',"Momma rolled her eyes at me.

"Momma, I'm just not ready. I don't really know what else to tell you,"I exhaled, giving her an uncaring shrug.

"Wipe that disrespect off your face before I slap it off, Darlin',"Momma replied, narrowing her eyes at me.

Daddy laughed until tears came out of his eyes, earning weird looks from Momma and I.
