Chapter 3: New Help

      I tried release my grip from his arm but it was no use. It was too tight and there was nowhere to go. "Let's go. We don't want to have trouble, Detective." I saw that he showed half of his gun from his jacket. I gulped softly and was being dragged out of the bar. "Now, move it boys! We don't have all night! Take him to the back of the van." I tried thinking of a solution but there were 3 men against me. Then, the one holding me yelped and released me. I ran for I didn't have no plan. I heard more shouts and running coming towards. I got ready for anyone ready to strike. I heard the running footsteps getting closer, ready to combat but instead, my arm got dragged to an alley. A mysterious person seemed to be friendly with me. "Up!" I looked up and see staircases, leading to the roof. "They went this way! Remember, keep him alive! Kill the person who jumped at us!!" We both gasped and started to climb as fast as we could. "Hurry!!" "I'm going as fast as I can! I can't go faster with the coat!" "Then take it off!!" When we finished talking, they have found out where we were. "Up there! Kill that person and get him back!!" I finally got to the roof and helped the person by grabbing its hand. Delicate and soft hand. She's female! What's she doing out in the night alone and helping me?! "We have to jump roof and roof to where we'll be safe. You'll have to get rid of your coat in when you jump. I'll do the same. Let's go!" I nodded and we ran off, with the 3 men on the roof. We dodged the bullets they were shooting at us. We had to do the first jump while they were very close to us. I took off my coat, kept my hat, she did the same and we jumped. As we landed, I could tell all the way, she's a woman. "Keep going! We're not even close there yet!" We kept running and I wanted to ask her questions. "Why did you save me?! Why are you even out in the dark alone?!" "I ain't got time for that now! It's to be alive or not, detective!" "What! How did you-" I got interrupted by phone ringing."Hang on! Hello?" "Luke?! Where are you right now?! I'm worried!!" "I'm sorry! I can't talk right now!" "Duck!!" I ducked but ended on the ground almost falling down and heading to my death. If it wasn't the lady caught me and brought me back to my feet. "Luke?!?" "I'm fine for now!! Look, I'll come back at home tomorrow. Don't go anywhere, stay wherever you are! Bye! Ack!!" This time I fell down and already dropped my phone. I couldn't see where I was going but I knew this was the end. I closed my eyes and just waited. When I landed, I felt that I was on cushion. "What...?" I opened my eyes and I was in a car. "Hello mate! Nice seeing you DROP by! Ha!" The lady landed in the front seat. "Step on it! They're on to us!!" He stepped on the acceleration and we went off. What's going on?!? "Where to, uhh..Tonia?." "I don't know, Oliver! They might follow us. Just go somewhere, so they can't follow us!!" "Alright then!" Tonia looked behind and looked at me. "You dropped something when you went falling down. Here." She gave me phone. "Thanks." "You should lay low. We won't be having-" "Yikes! We got company!" "You've got to be kidding me!! Lose them!" "On it!! You might have to get it. It's in front of you." I stayed low so they couldn't see me. "Why are they after me?!" "Quiet! They're after us too!" "What?!?" I heard a gun reloading and saw that she had a gun. "What are you doing?!" "Calm down! I'm gonna shoot at their tires so they won't know where we go! Incoming!!" I covered my head and she shot at them. I heard the car skidding and looked back to see. "Bullseye! Woo! Head to base now! Sucks to be you, losers!!!" I saw there weren't happy at us because they all had drawn their guns. We both gasped but as we were about to take a turn, they didn't shoot but kept staring at us. We turned the corner and couldn't see them anymore. "Oh my god! I thought they were going to shoot at us! That was very close but yes!! We did it!! Next time, detective, think ahead, talk less and be more Careful!" "Stop calling me detective! And how do you know I'm a detective?!" "Alright, I'll stop calling you detective. Luke, you'll know soon. But out here, it's dangerous." She also knows my name too?! What else she knows about me?!
        We ended up to a two story house, with a garage to park the car. Oliver parked the car, he and Tonia jumped out. "Whew! That was successful!! Yes!!" "We still haven't gotten the rest yet. Don't celebrate too much!" "True... But still! We finally did something right this time! C'mon, Luke. You can join us!" "Fine..." I opened the door and closed it. I followed them into the main room and I was shocked! The living room was bigger than the outside looked. They had a Chandler, good looking place to sit in front of the TV. They also had a staircase leading to the second floor. "Beautiful is our place, huh? My Uncle led it to me. I let Oliver live here with me since he got nowhere to live." "We're partially best friends since little! So, what will you guys like to have?" " Since we're celebrating, I'll some wine please! What about  you, Luke?" "Um, do you have any punch?" "Indeed! Here, O- I mean, Tonia. Take out the bottle and serve yourself while I serve Luke." I waited until Oliver gave me my punch and started asking questions again. "What's going on? How do you know me?! Why did you saved me? How did you know I was there?!" Tonia drank her 1 glass of wine and served herself another glass. "I guess if you are going to work with us, we'll have to tell you everything. Let's start from the beginning! I'm Olivia!" "And I'm Oscar!" "Those are your real names?!" "Yes, we do use fake name everywhere including with other people and in our papers! We only list our real last name." "Let me get this right? Your real names are Oliver and Tonia but you call yourselves different names to cover your real identity?" "Correct, Luke! We started it when we were just in Elementary school! I love having another name! Don't you also, Oscar?" He was sitting on a chair across but had a small frown on his face. He played around with his wine with one finger. "Yeah, I think it's useful." "Ouch, touchy subject. Um, let's change the subject!" "Sure, like how do you know me? Why save me?" "Why, we need to help each other! No?" I ponder to think what she was referring to while she got a third drink of Wine!! How many can she drink before she's drunk?! "How many have you drank, Olivia? You shouldn't drink the limit, and you know it!" "Relax, Oscar! It's my third." She stayed a few seconds quiet. "How much is my limit again?" "Five!" "Oh. Well, I forgot!" I kept thinking what she could be, then I remember her coat was the same as mine! "You're both detectives?" "I am but not Oscar. He's my helper. He was never much of a detective. He doesn't have the skills and he also knows it. What he is a engineer and a magician!" "Really? I don't believe it!" "Ohh, you don't believe her? Olivia, where's my hat?" "It's in your room where you left it." "Ah, yes. Then, can I have that napkin please?" She handed a napkin and I was watching very closely. "Now watch carefully, Luke. For I can do magic! Watch as I have the napkin in my hand!" He closed his eyes, and when he opened his hand and eyes, appeared a magician hat! "Woah! You can actually do magic? Wait, where did the napkin go?" "Get that smirk away, Luke. It's right here!" He took out the napkin out of my ear! "Wow, now I believe!" "Thank you, though I retired being a magician but I still know all the tricks! Right now I'm just an engineer. I make inventions for me and Olivia to work with while solving cases." "Speaking of cases, we have one important and we need you, Luke." "Me? Can't you get someone else or no?" "There isn't no one else!" "What?" "Follow us, lead the way, Oscar." He nodded and we followed him out of the kitchen. There was a door where the living room that I couldn't almost see it was a room. Oscar took a key out and opened it. He walked and I went after Olivia. Someone closed the door and it was pitched dark. I can't see anything!! Someone turn on the lights! This isn't comfortable! Someone was pushing me and stopped when someone turn on the lights. I flinched and adjust my eyes to see a billboard in front of me. "What is this?!" "Welcome to our place where we work temporarily! This is all of what we know!" I saw many pictures of men and women with red cross on top of them. One included me but didn't had a red cross on it. "Wait, all of these people crossed, were they Detectives too?" "That's right, you're the only one we could save. Someone always takes them away somewhere! And we don't know where." "I got letter but I don't know if it's useful..." "Letter?!" "Letter! Give me it!" I handed her the letter and read it out. She stopped mid way for she turned pale. Oscar went behind her and took out many papers. "These are the same as the others detectives' letters!! The same time, same address! But why?!?" "I counted about 4 letters excluded of Luke's letter. There are around 15 detectives that work in London and all are gone expect you both!" "When did they started happening?! I should have heard this!" "It started two weeks ago, and if we don't hurry, all will be lost." "Why did you say that...?" I got nervous when she said that for I believed I got pale. She didn't respond back but Oscar did in a low voice. "Two are already dead. One of them we knew and..." He stopped and turned around. Olivia looked like she was break in tears. "Oh God... I'm so sorry for your lose... Was he related to you, Olivia?" "Y-Yes... He was my Uncle's older brother..." "One of your cousins... When did this happen?!" "It happened today! He was found today died in the park! They said there weren't injuries or anything! They're trying to find out what killed him but he could have been poisoned!  If we don't hurry, all the Detectives could die!!" She broke up crying against Oscar's shoulder. "Let's give all of us a break today. We did what we could and we succeeded! So, let's just go to sleep and we'll figure it out tomorrow, okay?" "Okay... Where will Luke sleep though..." "He can sleep in my room. I can sleep in the couch today." "Well... Fine. I'm already tired to be arguing. I'll be going to my room. G'night  Oscar. Good night, Luke." She looked she was going to say more but didn't. "Good night, Olivia." She left and I saw Oscar's back behind me. "I'll show you my room now. Come." He lead the way again and when I came out, he locked the door. "No one gets in or out without this key..." He said it in such a low voice that I could barely hear him. We went upstairs and his room was the first one to be seen. "Here we are. My room!" There was a bed in the center with a small shelf beside it. A closet was in the far right, next to it was a shelf completely filled by books. On the far left, a place of many pictures and a table of gadgets. Right next to the pictures stood what looked a clothing for a magician. "Is that yours?" "Yeah. Who else? Ah, I remember those back like if yesterday... That was only two years..." I grabbed his hat and put it back to his spot. "Tomorrow's Sunday...?" "Yeah." He mumbles that I couldn't hear what he said. I wanted to ask but I didn't. "Luke, can you keep a secret?" "Yes, I can. What is it?" "Do, you, trust me?" "Yes. Both you and Olivia!" "Don't tell Olivia. I don't have the courage to tell her this. I don't know why!" He took a deep breath, walk behind me, and closed the door. "Don't you think that Olivia can-" "Hear us? Pfft, these walls I made to be soundproof. You may want to sit down." I sat down on his bed and stared at the floor instead on Oscar. "It all started when I was a big famous magician. I worked at a nice restaurant where I would perform on the weekends. I felt amazing to pleasure people in a amazing way! Until, someone came into my life and it became complicated..."
          "Now, I'll need a volunteer from the audience please! Anyone? Don't be shy!" "I'll be of assistance of your act." I turned who was heading to the stage and my heart jumped. A lovely lady around my age was coming. She had beautiful dirty blond hair. It was short to her neck, not too short and her blue eyes looked exactly as the blue sky. I took her hand and they were as gentle as the sand in the beach. I snapped into reality and back to the act. "What's your name?" "Ava." "Ava, please make your way into the-" I just realized there wasn't anything on the stage, which there was supposed to be something on. "Ack, hang on. I'll make it appear on the stage! My mistake!" "No worries, Oliver. We have all night to see your incredible magic!" I blushed at her statement, for no one actually told me in front of me that they love me... I made the long box appeared and everyone clapped. I took a small bow and took Ava's hand to the box. "Will I be okay?" She whispered, a little unsure. "I promise you'll be fine. You're in my hands. I won't let anyone, including you, be harmed. I've never harmed anyone. Just close your eyes and you'll have a small reward." I told her in my most charming gentle voice. She let go of my hand and went inside. I waved my hands without touching the box and shut close was the box. "Ladies and gentlemen, watch as she disappears! And no, this is different than any other magician you have ever seen! This isn't fake! For I, Oliver the magician will show you! Voila!" I opened the door and she disappeared. The crowd clapped and I did a silent gesture. "For the finale, I'll show you that I can make her appear right before your eyes!" I closed my eyes and got ready to make appear. But before I make her visible, I talked to her in my mind. Are you ready, Ava? Did you did what I told you? Yes, I closed my eyes and how, can I hear you?! It's all in your mind. It's another magic trick, now listen. Get ready for I'll make you appear. Are you ready? Yes, I am. I opened my eyes  and had Ava in my arms. She was surprised and so was the crowd. "Mom! That's amazing!! How did he do it?! He did it front of our eyes!" "I don't know, dear! But it's truly incredible!" "It's never been done! He's actually the greatest magician!" "There's no tricks! He did it but how?!" "Wow! Wait till everyone knows about him!" "Bravo!! Bravo!" I put  down and grab her hand. "Take a bow with me. You were part of the act!" Her smile was more dazzling than a diamond. I bowed with her bowing besides me. After the curtains went down, I went to Ava and kissed her gently on a cheek. "Thank you for being a part." "It was nothing... I didn't do anything. It was all you." "True but I never use someone in my act. The owners always thought I used some trick in the stage but I didn't. I can do magic." She blushed and I turned more red. "I do hope to come here more often now. I do come sometimes when I'm free." "Do come, I would love for you to a dinner I can invite. If you don't mind, I mean..." "No, I don't. I'm actually single. I can come next Saturday. Do you have time after your performance?" "Of course. I'll see you then, Ava." I got her hand and it kissed it. "I'll see you soon, Oliver." I walked with her to backstage and back to where everyone was. She waved goodbye and so did I. While I see her at leave, I get off my hat and can't help watching her. I can't for next Saturday... "Oliver! Kitchen, noow!" It was Carlos, the owner of the restaurant. I wonder what he was going to say. "I'm coming!!" I walked into the kitchen and I saw Carlos sitting on a box while Mike, the chief was cooking. "Yes, Carlos? You called?" "Ah, yes! I'm fascinated by your performance again, Oliver! Everyone seemed to love it! That was new, if I'm right." "Yes, it was. Thank you sir. Carlos, can I ask a favor?" "Hmm, a favor? Depends. Tell me anyway." "Well, I invited someone and I'm having a date on next Saturday. You-" "A date?!? Wow, and I thought you'd be single for the rest of your life! I won't mind at all, Oliver! But be aware that I won't be here that day, I have business beginning on Thursday. So, do help out with cleaning up. Ok?" "Of course. Thank you, Carlos! I won't upset you! Everything will be the same after you come back!" "Good, I'll be back on Sunday. Mike, I hope you'll still be here." "Yes, I will. I had some plans for the weekend but I had to cancel them for another time. Won't let you down sir either!"

    That's chapter 3! I find this my favorite chapter for now because I introduced two new characters! Chapter 4 will be continued for Oscar's story! Everyone has a secret but they won't tell them all til it's necessary. You'll be surprised with the three main character's secrets! (Which should be obvious, Luke, Oscar and Olivia.) I'm on Winter break!! Two weeks and a half without school!  I'll have chapter 4 very soon. I've til 6 chapters, so I should try to catch up with my chapters. I'll see you guys soon!
