I was looking at myself in the mirror, trying to get the ‘cat eye’ thing done while listening to Stereo Love – Edward Maya ft. Alicia. It had been what had given me the most trouble doing, on myself of course. It required such a precision, a precision I could not get a hold of with my eye trembling, praying for me not to stab onto it.
I heard a knock on the door of my room and immediately turned around. Someone opened the door and I saw who it was.
“Okay ready?” she asked me, closing the door behind her.
“Almost, just give me a minute,” I replied. I looked back into the mirror and finished my makeup as she sat down on my bed. I saw her studying my bright green dress through the mirror and smiled, happy to be here with her, ready to go out and live it up like we were supposed to at this age. The dress I was wearing was one of my favorites, neon green that had a black bow on the back, making the dress look better with my hair up. I matched it with my favorite shiny black pumps.
“I like that dress,” she stated. I smiled as I turned around and struggled to zip it up.
“Thanks, and we’ll be leaving soon. I’m just trying to zip up this dress…” I mumbled as I tried to reach my back with my arms. “And I am kind of failing. I am not the most flexible girl around you know,” I added, frustrated at myself for not being able to zip up my dress. It was such a simple thing and I could not get it done. Inflexible girls’ problems.
She giggled as she stood up, ready to help me. “No, but you are certainly the most funny one and the best friend around.”
I heard – and I can also say that I felt- the sincerity in her words. It was funny the turns my life had done these last couple of days, but the outcome could have not been any better. It was ridiculous how close Blaze and I had become with these girls, but it was also the best decision we could have made.
I knew then that we were becoming friends, not acquaintances or ‘friends’, the ones that stab you in the back or cannot stand you when you are not perfect, thing you will never actually get to be since you are only human. She is the kind of friend with which you do not have to pretend. She is all I had been looking for in a friend.
Simply, she was my friend from now on.
She zipped up my dress, getting me back to reality. “Aww, who is being a sweetheart?” I asked her as we both laughed at our silliness. Spending time with her was becoming so effortless and pretty much…basic. I could see myself crashing at her flat and her crashing at mine, I could see us watching chick flicks and crying and laughing together. I could see her in my future, as part of it. And also Leigh-Ann, Jade and Jesy. We would form a big clique, along with Blaze. And it was perfect.
“I don’t know…” she played along, moving cutely from side to side, just like a little girl when she is getting a compliment from her grandparents.
“You!” I cooed, pointing at her.
“Aww, you are such a romantic!”
“I know right!”
“Haha, okay enough chitty chat, time to party Kelly,” she said turning her face into a serious expression.
“Sure, let’s go.”
“Everyone is already there, so let’s go.” She grabbed my arm and pushed me out of my room and towards the front door of my apartment.
“Good, let’s go then.” I stretched over to grab my purse and ended up hitting my forehead on the wall, causing Perrie to burst out laughing at my clumsiness.
“You never focus,” she mused.
“Oh shut up, you never focus either.”
“What?! I focus all the time! I am like the most focused person. Ever.”
