2 - A Latte On My Bra & Beyond
I walked lazily through the streets of the gorgeous London – it looks so beautiful in the morning, when everyone is waking up and the day is beginning - on my way to work. The beeping of the god damn alarm is still pounding in my ear, though. But at least I don’t have to seat behind a desk and type or do reports. I am not sure I could handle that in an everyday basis. Thanks to my job I get to go to different places every single time. I meet so many different people and get to always do something new. And that is one of the many reasons why I love to be a stylist. I really don’t see myself getting used to or doing something else. It has become pretty much my life, and I want it to stay that way.
I sighed though, as I crossed a street, looking to both sides to make sure I would not die today run by a car. It’s not something I look forward to. I have only seen it in movies but even there it does not seem gleeful and attractive. I tried to ignore the annoying sound inside my ears and kept on walking, really regretting staying up late last night. It took a lot of concealer to hide the bags under my eyes. My high heels tapped on the floor as I stepped them confidently on the streets’ pavement. Today was one of those days when I would just pull out an amazing outfit and feel unstoppable. My purple hair moved to the beat of the wind, yes I dyed it two weeks ago. I never would have thought it would look good, but then I was tempted to try it on a day of boredom and here I am, purple haired. And I love living in such an open-minded city like London, where you are not judged by the color of your hair, or how you dress. Nothing like in my hometown back there in Cardiff. I remember some girls being really mean to me in high school for wanting to try something different out. But that is why I moved here, to be free and not judged. And so far the city has proved itself freaks-friendly.
This is one of the days when things might just turn out right; I kind of have a good feeling. This day -when you just feel awesome and that everything around you is the same way- is the one everyone longs for when they wake up.
As my thoughts divagated into the many possibilities my day could turn into, all of them being great, my phone started to buzz inside my black, studded purse. I have to go around using one that is as fat as a potato because I keep forgetting to take mine to the store to fix it. I quickly searched for the ringing potato, taking some time, of course, because it takes forever to find the damn potato inside my big purse, and when I finally found it, I picked up to answer. It was Blaze, my assistant. We have worked together for almost a year now. And she is nice, gets annoyed quickly and has a quite short temper if you ask me. But I have let all that aside because we work together, we don’t hang out together. And beneath all her annoyance towards some people, she is actually pretty great.
“Hello,” I said cheerfully.
“Hey, Kell!”
“What’s up? I’m on my way, just give me a minute.” I said, thinking she was calling me to see if I was going to get soon to the building we are supposed to be in. maybe if I took a cab instead of walking, I could have got there earlier.
“That is why I am calling actually…” Blaze said. I could hear something odd in her voice and dreaded what she says next. “I am not going to be able to go today.”
I abruptly stopped walking and made a fist with my empty hand, trying to control my anger, I don’t want to hurt the fat potato with my anger.
Exactly when I really need her is when she is not available. I felt myself starting panicking as I waited for an answer, a damn good one. “Why is that?” I muttered through gritted teeth. Just when it was going to be an amazing day, this happens. I finally spot the building I am supposed to go to today and made my way to it, still waiting for Blaze’s excuse. We have to style two freaking bands today, two! Oh, and let’s not forget this is a two-days photo shoot. And she misses out. Just great.
