Yay! Peter was full of excitement to go to the tower. And Thor would be there too! That's insane! Feeling like a ball of energy, Peter changed into his suit and stuffed his normal clothes into his backpack. "Gotta go May, I'll see you later bye!" He yelled to his aunt and leaving through the window before she could stop him. "Be back by 6!"
He began swinging through the city towards the tower. It was faster than walking, but Peter still scolded himself for using his powers in vain. Half of him knew it wasn't a big deal and though it was fun, but the other was still thinking about what uncle Ben had said about 'responsibility' and 'great power.' In around 10 minutes he arrived at the tower. Peter swung to the back of the tower without being seen. Taking off his backpack, he tried to relax. He wanted to act at least semi-chill in front of everyone even though they all already knew him and cared for him. But what if they secretly think I'm just another dumb kid? What if I'm annoying? I'm probably a burden to them.
What if's filled his head. Shaking the thoughts was almost as hard as not believing them. He slipped on his clothes over the suit in a dark corner and pulled down the mask.
He took in a deep breath. I just need to calm myself. It's for the best. Peter reached into his backpack and pulled out a pack of his so-called stress relievers.
Cigarettes. That's what he's come to. Funny how he's so against taking his meds and his aunt May's drinking, yet this is perfectly fine to him. A break is all it is. He grabbed his lighter and lit the end of a cigarette, pressing it to his lips and taking in a breath. A puff of smoke formed. The smell of nicotine surrounded him. Peter couldn't help but smile. This is all so stupid, he thought.  The fact that this calms me is ridiculous. Aunt May and Mr. Stark would be so disappointed. They probably already are. Peter gave the cigarette another puff. It's fine. I'm fine. Just a little while longer.
It's weird, isn't it? How people can only see what you let them see. It was to Peter, at least.
After a few more minutes Peter grabbed his things and made sure he didn't leave anything there. That would be bad. Not really thinking, Peter rolled up his sleeve and pressed the dimly lit cigarette onto his skin. The burn didn't really bother him. In a way he liked it. Once it was no longer lit, he lifted it from his arm and threw it in a trash can near him. All the way from his wrist to his elbows were covered in burns and scars. A small smile formed on his face. Those marks never failed to make him smile.
Peter turned around the corner and started walking to the front of the tower. He went inside and was greeted by all the familiar faces that even if he wasn't the closest friends with, comforted him in a way. A few of them waved at Peter. He waved back. Most people that work at stark industries know Peter. He kind of felt bad that he barely remembered their names.
He got to the elevator and pressed the top floor button. This place felt like home. More home than anywhere he's ever been. The elevator doors opened as Peter stepped out.
Mr. Stark was sitting at the counter with a coffee in sweats and a t-shirt. He looked annoyed.
"Hello, Peter." Friday's voice rang in the room. Tony looked up. "Hey kid." He said just barely smiling. Peter could tell he was stressed, but he couldn't figure out why. I'll ask later. "Hi Mr. Stark!" Happy walked in the room with a stack of papers. "Okay tony so about the-oh god. Oh god. You didn't tell me he'd be here." Before Happy could escape the ball-of-energy child, Peter ran up to him. "HI MISTER HAPPY SIR HOW HAVE YOU BEEN I HAVENT SEEN YOU IN FOREVER!" The energy comes and goes. "Peter-what?" He was talking so fast Happy couldn't even understand him. Tony started laughing at his friends confusion and frustration with the kid. Happy just rolled his eyes and went back through the door he came from. But of course, Peter followed. Tony chugged the last bit of his coffee. He was gonna need it.
