Wren happily scarfed down a plate of scrambled eggs. He had to shift a bit down the bench seat as blinding beams of bright morning sun slowly encroached upon him.

Blinking the sunspots out of his eyes, Wren spotted Alusius making his way over to him. He clutched a mysterious piece of paper to his chest. A letter? A bill? Spell notes?

"Morning!" Wren said, "What's that?"

"Nothing."

"Kinda sus there, buddy. What is it?"

"It's nothing. Wren."

"Come on, you can't show me? What is it, tax forms?"

"No, it's- you almost got me."

"I promise I won't tell anyone else that you already got your first detention."

"It's not a detention!" Alusius said. The next few words fell out of his mouth, like apples falling out of a basket before he could stop them. "It's a letter."

"Who's it from?"

Alusius hung his head in defeat. He handed the slip of paper to Wren. It was hardly a letter -a post-it note's worth of content scribbled out in poorly-handwritten Sernan.

"Dear Lucy," Wren said, drawing a cringe from Alusius, "I love you! Have a good time at school. I miss you! Love, Zoran."

"My brother," Alusius said, "I'm surprised it came all the way from Rakna'ara without so much as a chip in the seal."

"That's cute. He has a nickname for you."

"Well, he's young. He can't be expected to understand... complicated things."

Author's Note:

Every once in a while, I'll have a little mini-episode to throw in that doesn't necessarily add much to the story. I have a lot of ideas of what these characters would do in their free time, so why not use them?
