I knocked on her door and she beckoned me in.

I closed the door behind me as I entered.

"What do you want?" Her voice was hoarse, like someone who has been sobbing.

"I came to talk." I was still standing by the door. When she nodded, I walked over to her bed and sat with her. The same bed where I defiled her.

"Speak!" She said, more like a command.

I took my time, then I started "Are you aware that your brother is a gay?" I asked.

She doesn't flinch or bulge. She was brushing her wig and staring at the window.

"I don't care about his sexuality" she said after a long silence.

"Are you aware that he was having a crush on Simon"

Her face turned white and she looked like someone about to explode.

"Leave my room!" She ordered.

I didn't move an inch "Did you kill him because you found out that he was having an affair with Mason?" I pressed on.

"If you don't leave this room, I'll scream!" She thundered.

"Or maybe, Mason killed him because...."

"Mum!!!!!!" She screamed.

I stood up and faced her.
She was sobbing.

I held her, "I don't mean any harm. I was just curious" I said, trying to soothe her.

She sobbed more and I hugged her. Her head to my chest, my hand to her hair.

It was one of those moments I love most.

"I love you, Beth." It was something I meant to say in my mind, but i said it out.

Either she didn't hear or she did but acts like she doesn't.

"I killed Simon because he tried to rape me." She whimpered. "It isn't anything concerning my brother"
Perhaps I was wrong with my assumption.

"I love you Beth and I need you to love me back." It was what I've always wanted to say.

She stared at me, "James Please!..." She muttered "For the sake of your own life, do not fall in love with me"

I know what she meant. "I'm not really a sex maniac, if that's what you are scared of"

She mumbled something inaudibly.

"You say?"

"That's not the only reason. There's something you need to know about me." She said and my heart skipped.

"Promise me you'll keep it as a secret" She said.

"I will" My ears were itching.

She hesitated.

"Speak!" I said eagerly.

She swallowed hard, then said "Do you know why I never wanted to have sex with anyone. Or rather, with Simon or with you"

"Why?"

"Because I love you both and I don't want to harm you guys."

"What are you talking about."

A long pause. "I'm infected."

I flinched. My eyes widened.

"I'm HIV positive."
