I held Theo for so long, still crying.
He suddenly became quiet.I still held on, "Please Theo, don't kill me!"
"Stand up." Theo ordered. I stood up and looked at his eyes. It was filled with grief.
"I'm too weak to kill you" he mumbled tiredly. Then he walked to his bed where he sat and buried his face in his palm and grieved for his beloved mom.
I know it was time to run.
I need to flee before he gained strength."Perhaps, I can help you kill him since you are tired!" It was Joel.
He was holding a pistol. My heart leapt.
No Please!
"
Theo said nothing."Should I?" Joel asked, looking at Theo while pointing his gun at me.
Jack came to the rescue. He took the gun from Joel and inserted it in his pocket.
"This case has nothing to do with you!" Jack said pointedly.Joel's face turned red.
Jack walked to Theo and patted him on his shoulder "I'm sorry for the loss bro"
Theo barely nodded. His eyes sagged.
He was looking vulnerable and I know this might be my only way.I walked over to him and hugged him so tight, I cried like a child. I apologized profusely.
"I never meant to kill her. I'm very sorry"
To my surprise, Theo said "Run Smith. Run!" He cried.
I pulled back from him and stare.
"Please run. Run away from here and don't think of coming back!""Why?" I managed.
"If I ever get well, I'll kill you. Run now that I'm still sick!"
It wasn't a threat. It was a lethal warning.
I looked at Jack, he shrugged sadly.
I used the Next minute in packing up all my things, I used the other next minute, running out of the hostel.
I know I was never going to come back. Not to the hostel. Not to Harvard. Not to USA either. I'm going to my country, Nigeria; The land of the Blacks.
On my way out of Harvard, I branched to Tonia's house to bade her a quick farewell.
When I got there I met the greatest shock of my life.
Tonia was in her dining, eating and chatting happily with her Mum; Theo's mum. The one whom I fed with my bitter herbs. The one who in her madness, demanded to see beyond my trouser zip. The one whom Theo was grieving for.Tonia rushed on to me and hugged me.
"Thank goodness you're here. I was just telling momma about you" She said cheerily. What is actually going on?
"Mom, meet Smith Akindele. He's the Nigerian guy who healed you" There's always this funny way she pronounced my Surname. It sounded like Arkindell.
"Smith, I believe you've met my mom but then she wasn't in a proper state. Well I'll have to introduce her again, Meet my Mom; Mrs Stephanie"
The woman gave me a wide smile. "I'm sorry I don't recognize you. But I guess you know why?" She said.
I nodded, I was still confused. I looked at Tonia "Is Theo aware?"
