dearest reader,

it is no surprise that the entire ton are abuzz awaiting the debuts of the most esteemed ladies society has to offer. whether it be a bridgerton with an appealing face and a title all the more appealing or the loud featherington colours that will attract a suitor likened to the manner in which peacock does, it is promised to be an exciting season filled with drama and scandal and this author is here to leave no stone unturned and no secret unshared.

but these are not all the ladies that the ton has to offer, nor all the gentleman, that are said to be arriving in time for the beginning of the season. as this author has been told, there is an arrival or two that could certainly shake up the current order. will these new arrivals be welcomed warmly? this author has been told that the ton can expect a newly titled duke, a known rake who is to be, despite his ways, most definitely welcomed or rather ensnared by murderous mamas that will stop at nothing to secure their daughters the title of the duchess.

however, the duke is not the only new arrival that is eagerly anticipated. this is not a stranger to the ton, but rather a debutante very familiar with our green and pleasant land, although less so after spending several years with our french cousins! mon dieu!

i am informed that the ton is to await the arrival of a certain marquess' daughter, lady katherine 'kitty' chatham, who was sent to europe very swiftly at the age of sixteen. one could certainly question the swiftness in which she was sent away, almost as if there was something to hide! a scandal perhaps? while the 'kitty' cat was away the mice have certainly played but this author is curious to see how this young lady will re-enter london society for her debut season, alongside the long-awaited appearance of the duke.

i for one, dear reader, can already sense all the mama's jealousy at the risk of the other debutantes being overshadowed! it is time i bid farewell, or rather au revoir!

yours truly,

lady whistledown.
