Ma Jiaqi was walking calmly back to the company building from the convenience store.
"I can't believe I lost at rock, paper, scissors and now I have to treat everyone to snacks," he mumbled.
The street was fairly quiet and empty so he knew he didn't have to worry too much about being seen.
There was an alley nearby. And a short girl who looked around his age standing there. She appeared to be hiding.
Jiaqi didn't pay much attention to her and kept walking while looking at the items in the bag.
"My poor wallet has to suffer," he sighed, "I should have walked into the room later."
"Xu WanXu!!" He heard a man yell out a name. "Where are you!"
Jiaqi slowed down and observed the man as he frantically looked up and down the street. He was wearing fancy clothes, a suit to be precise.
"Xu WanXu, when I find you you're going to be in so much trouble! Your mom and I are not happy about this! You're 18, this is not the age to still be acting so childish!" The man yelled furiously. He didn't take the chance to notice if there was anyone else on the street since it was so quiet.
Once the man spotted Jiaqi, he composed himself and walked over to him.
"Excuse me young man. Have you by any chance seen..." the man slowly stopped talking as his eyes traveled from the bag in Jiaqi's hand to the signs on the stores. "Ahh, nevermind. You probably haven't seen anything. Sorry for bothering you."
As the man walked away, he spotted a reflective object on the ground. As the man walked away, Jiaqi looked over to the alley where the girl was before. As the man walked away, the girl slowly walked back to where she was when Jiaqi first saw her.
The man picked up the reflective object. It was a gold bracelet belonging to his daughter.
There was a ringing of the man's phone, he picked up the call.
"Sir, we found one of her earrings on the ground and her shoes were found a few steps away from the earring. We're currently down the street from where the entertainment company is."
"Thank you, I'll be right there," the man said and ran in the direction Jiaqi had to go in.
Jiaqi had not moved, his mind was going around in circles wondering what happened.
His attention turned to the girl and he took time to look at what she was wearing. White casual shoes, a light purple flowy dress that ended a bit below her knees, a black casual jacket that looked too big on her. Her hair was let down and was slightly wavy. He had already seen her face before and he thought she looked very pretty.
Jiaqi didn't notice but she was looking at the man rushing down the street. Once he turned the corner, she walked out to the middle of the street and started to move backwards in a hurried manner. She was planning to go into one of the stores nearby and think of her next move.
Obviously she wasn't looking in the direction where she was going and Jiaqi was too distracted looking at her to move.
He watched as she bumped into him. To him it was in slow motion.
The girl gasped and quickly turned around and looked up at him.
"Oh my gosh, I am so sorry. Are you ok?" Her tone contained genuine worry and a bit of panic but also a bit of relief. Jiaqi could sense it.
"I'm ok, are you ok?"
"Yeah, I'm sorry once again."
The girl looked inside the convenience store and saw the news channel playing on the tv. She realized she couldn't go in there anymore. She realized she was close to not escaping the situation she was in.
Both she and Jiaqi heard a phone notification. The girl was certain it was not her phone since she did not have it with her. She was thinking of what to do now. Jiaqi turned on his phone to look at the notification.
There was a search going on for a girl.
"Breaking News. The second daughter of Xu Enterprise has disappeared from an engagement dinner. Her family and the police are currently out on the streets looking for her. She was last seen by her family at XXX restaurant wearing a light purple dress and white 2 inch heels. If you see her or have any hints as to where she could be, please contact the police."
Jiaqi directed his eyes away from what he was reading and saw the girl had started walking away.
"Wait, what's your name?" Jiaqi asked before the girl had the chance to leave.
She turned around and gave him a sweet smile.
"My name? My name is Xu WanXu."
And then she turned around and walked away.
Jiaqi looked back at his phone and scrolled down a bit to see the information on the girl that went missing.
Two things in particular stuck out to him, the name and the picture.
"It's her," Jiaqi mumbled.
He loudly said "Wait!" and looked up, only to find out that Xu WanXu had already left.
The other stores on the street were closed except for the convenience store they were standing next to so Jiaqi knew she wasn't in there.
He ran to the end of the street and looked both ways to see if she was there. He saw nothing except for emptiness.
"Come back!" he yelled.
After waiting for a minute, he decided to walk back to the company.
Something shiny caught his eye on the ground where she had been standing while talking to him. He picked it up and examined it. It was a purple drop earring with flowers. Upon further examination, he saw there were tiny letters carved into one part of the earring.
