“Uncle Spencer!” Henry yelled when he and JJ walked through the door of Spencer’s apartment.

“Henry!” Spencer yelled back with just as much enthusiasm.

JJ smiled at the two as Spencer picked up Henry and spun him around causing both boys to burst into laughter. Spencer sat Henry down on the couch and started tickling him. Henry yelled in laughter. JJ laughed and moved Henry’s backpack from the floor where he dropped it to the back of one of the chairs in the kitchen.

Once the boys settled down, JJ told Henry that he needed to do his homework. He sat down at the kitchen table. His chair had a stack of books on it so he reach the table.  He pulled out two sheets of paper and a pencil. One was math and the other writing. He started on the writing, while JJ began cooking dinner.

“Mommy how do you spell uncle?”

“U-n-c-l-e.” Spencer replied as he walked into the kitchen.

“Thank you!” Henry smiled and went back to his work.

“I didn’t know your name was Mommy.” JJ said quietly so only Spencer could hear. Spencer blushed.

“I’m kidding Reid.” JJ said as she laughed at his blush.

Spencer sat down next to Henry reading what he had written. Smiling all the way through it.

Henry wrote: my mommie and i are staying with my uncle spence i luv him a lot last halowen i went as him my uncle spencer is nice he got mac and cheze at the store just for me i like staying with my uncle spencer

Spencer smiled and began to helpfully correct Henry’s spelling. He helped him add periods and other punctuation.

His final paper read: My mommy and I are staying with my Uncle Spencer. I love him a lot. Last Halloween, I went as him. My Uncle Spencer is nice to me; he got me Mac and Cheese at the store just for me. I like staying with my Uncle Spencer.

“How’d the homework coming along guys?” JJ asked setting two plates on the table.

“Good.” Spencer said sliding the paper back in front on Henry and placing the pencil next to the paper.

“Can Mommy read it?” JJ asked Henry. Henry nodded with excitement, but there was a worried look on Spencer’s face.

“Spence?” JJ asked gesturing to the paper.

“I was trying to help him out a little…”

“Yeah Mommy. Only helping.”

“First graders don’t usually use commas and semicolons Spence.”

Spencer blushed and looked down at the table.

“Oh well. He can tell his teacher that his favorite uncle helped him. Right Henry?”

“Right Mommy!”

They all laughed. JJ gestured to the two plates that were on the table.

“Eat up boys.” One plate was filled with Mac & Cheese and carrots, the other had some type of chicken with boiled carrots.

They talked over dinner about Henry’s day at school and how he made it all the way across the monkey bars at recess today.

“Hey Jack.” Emily said sitting down beside Jack on the couch where he was watching TV. Jack grunted in response.

“Jack? Can I talk to you for a minute?”

“I guess.”

“I’m not trying to replace your mom. I just want to make you and your dad happy. I won’t be taking your dad away from you either. I felt like you needed to know that.”

“You really feel that way?” Jack asked, finally turning away from the screen.

“Yeah Jack, I do. I know things have been hard for you and your dad and I wanna help.”

Jack smiled. All this time he had been thinking that Emily was trying to replace his mom. He leaned over and gave Emily a hug. She was surprised, but returned it. A smile making its way to her lips. Jack got up, and handed her the remote.

“I have to finish getting ready for a sleepover at Connor’s.”

“Alright.” She said smiling. That meant the night alone with Aaron Hotchner.

*****

Emily was lying awake in bed. Jack had gone over to Connor’s and Aaron decided that Emily needed a night out. They went to dinner at a new restaurant that Aaron had wanted to go to, but never had anyone to take. Jack was too young to go. They had a great time, they talked for hours, drank wine, and enjoyed the time that they had together. After awhile, they grew tired. Not of each other of course, that would never happen. They decided to call it a night and walk back home after paying the bill. The walk was nice, the air was cool and there was a nice breeze that traveled through the city’s streets. Emily found peace in walking hand in hand with Aaron. They didn’t separate until they got to the door, when Aaron had to release her hand to unlock the door. He let her in first and followed, locking the door behind him.

“That was great. Thank you Aaron.”

“You’re welcome Emily, but the pleasure was all mine.” Aaron took her hands into his own.

“Your hands are cold.”

“I know...It happens sometimes…”

Aaron spent a few seconds warming her hands. He was fighting the urge to kiss her. He finally gave into the urge and went for it. For the second time today, Emily had been surprised by the Hotchner men. She greeted the kiss with passion, she had wanted this for so long and it was finally happening. Aaron’s tongue glided against Emily’s lips, her heart skipped a beat before beginning to pound in her chest. She opened her mouth for him and he entered, exploring her mouth like he had wanted to do for a very long time. She couldn’t wait any longer, she slid her tongue into his mouth and explored. For a moment, their tongues twisted with one another. Emily was running out of air, but she didn’t want to separate from this kiss. Aaron separated from the kiss. Emily was relieved, she inhaled deeply at the same time as Aaron. They stood in each others arms catching their breath.

“I guess we should get to bed, huh?” Aaron asked so casually.

Emily opened her eyes and lifted her head from Aaron’s chest. “Yeah, I guess so.”

Emily separated herself from Aaron and gave him a kiss on the cheek before heading toward her room. Aaron wanted to stop her, too tell her to sleep with him tonight, but he couldn't get the words out fast enough before she slid through the door.
