A/N: So, this update took longer than I wanted it too and it's also super long, but I blame my brain, that wanted to be horny and add a sex scene [I didn't] umm, this is not fully edited, most the typos have been removed, but I'm brain dead, exhausted and have work at 8:30am today so... I'm gonna drop this update and go to bed. Peace y'all ✌🏾

It was early October, and the temperature had dipped recently. The weather had gotten windy these past few days. The sun had already set, and it wasn't even 6 pm yet, but the skies were as dark as night. Winter was definitely on its way, and it was coming with a vengeance, Jared thought. He huffed out a cloud of hot air into his hands, rubbing them together slightly, hating the chill that hung in the air.

Even though it was nowhere as cold as it could get, it was still too hard for him as he wrapped his thick scarf around his neck.

Jared dispelled those thoughts of the cold weather approaching as today was a good day for him. He was finally transferring from this shoddy excuse of a law firm and moving towards bigger and better means of employment. His current boss was a knob, and he rather not have to come in each day and deal with that arse. His boss was lucky he desperately needed that job after his recent move. His coworkers had all quit complaining that he didn't do business in their shady and misguided ways after he snapped in then when he didn't charge a poor older woman for help on a housing case. He would most definitely be reporting them once he was no longer under their employment.

He sighed, his breath making frost in the cool night air. "New York, where the winter cold comes early and leaves late."

"Tell me about it." Another voice said, joining in.

Jared whipped around to find his colleague and long-time best friend Colin Austen walking up to him. "Hello, handsome." He greeted and shook his head, tugging the scarf higher on his neck. "What brings you here on this chilly night?"

"Why, hello yourself, Jared. How are things with you? I heard about the new job."

He chuckled softly at that. "I'm excited, and I can't wait to be in my new office by Monday. So, how are Nina and the girls doing?" He asked, turning to face him.

Colin shrugged, "good, Nina is fine, and the girls are growing bigger each day. Honestly, I'm scared for when they finally grow up and don't need me anymore."

Jared shrugged. "Don't worry so much. They'll always need their dad, Colin."

Colin sighed, smiling at that. "I hope so." Jared lifted an arm and draped it over his shoulders.

"So worrying so much. Do you need to run back home early tonight?" Jared asked, gazing out at the busy streets of the city.

Colin shook his head. "No, I told Nina to expect me home late."

"Great!"

"Haha, yeah, we should go for a drink. Did you drive tonight?"

The shorter man asked him. Jared grinned. "I did. Why do you plan to get drunk?" he asked, his friend snickering as he tugged him along once the light changed.

He chuckled. "Am I wrong for needing a little break after such a hectic week?"

Jared couldn't help but agree. He knew how being a lawyer was, but he had no idea how trying it must be as a husband and a father of three daughters. So, whenever Colin wanted to relieve some dress with a night out, he was not quick to deny him that simple request. "Of course not. Let's get out of this cold." He said, fishing in his long tan winter coat's pocket for his keys. He beeped off the alarm as he and Colin got into the Buick jeep.
