"My brother had a few powers, considering one was intense hypnosis he would trick my friends or girls I liked into favoring him, but Carina's Ora was so strong his hypnosis didn't work on her." We'd been sitting at the breakfast nook now, eating the pancakes, bacon and omelet I'd made previously and drinking tap water because he had no juice. I didn't mind though, fancy has never been apart of my life style. I was trying to focus on his words yet, I was hardly listening, I was trying to figure out who that boy was.
"Well was your brother that bad looking to where he had to trick people into liking him?" He chuckled
"That's the annoying part, my brother was honestly a great looking guy, girls would throw themselves at him all the time and he had plenty of friends, I never understood why he wanted mine so badly."
"Well if he looked anything like you I'm pretty sure he was hot." I laughed to myself. "what did he look like anyway?" I was getting better at smoothly finding out information.
"Most people said we looked pretty similar, but the only thing between us I could find in common were our eyes and our smiles. His hair was blonde and way shaggier than mi-" he paused, "Why am I telling you I'll just show you." Once again he grabbed my hand and I tried to get in one more bite of my bacon before he pulled me through the house once again.
As we went up the stairs I tried to track our turns so I could get an idea of where the kitchen is.
Here I was again at the library unsure of what to expect. That old man could pop up again, or 'Avery' if it's even him I refuse to believe so, or anyone for that matter, I hope I haven't completely gone off of the deep end.
As we walked in my stomach dropped. In the reading nook, on a white leather chair there was Avery.
I was in complete shock but Logan seemed completely oblivious! He continued to walk towards the shelf with most of the photo albums in it and pulled out the same book tossed at me before. Almost like a reenactment, he flipped throught the pages and stopped at the page with the same picture I was shown before. All while this is happening I keep my eye on Avery to make sure he doesn't come bother me. Occasionally, he'd look up at me, raise an eyebrow or smirk a bit and go back to reading some old book called peace and war or something.
I glanced back over at Logan to see him bringing the book towards me and I could hardly focus. As Avery was walking towards me as well.
I kept shifting my eyes from one boy to another and obviously Logan reached me first, several seconds after came Avery.
"This," he says pointing to the photo I'd seen before, "is my brother." I stood there still shifting my eyes wondering if Logan even noticed.
"Oh no," he drew his head back, "you think he's hot too?"
"What? I dont! I'm just trying to analyze him and see if he looks anything like you." Nice save, I actually did find him overwhelmingly attractive and I don't think it has anything to do with his power.
"Oh so you finally told him about me?" He smirked, standing next to Logan.
"I can't talk to you right now," I whispered, "ganLoa isa ightra eretha" (that's pig Latin if you didn't know)
"No, you don't understand, don't you think if he could hear or see me he'd be talking to me right now? Or kicking me out of his house?"
"What are you getting at?" The whole room stopped as if Father Time himself said 'stop everything'.
"Look, this is just another one of my powers so don't freak out." My eyes grew wide as I pushed myself into reality. " I'm a manipulator," I looked at him confused, "a manipulator?! Logan hasn't explained anything to you has he?" He glanced back at Logan, tightening his jaw. "So let's have a quick lesson."
"Last time I checked, you're not the teacher here, Logan is."
"Ooo, I like the way you think, substitute teacher and the student going behind the teachers back, hot hot."
"Shut up, you know that's not what I meant." I pushed his right shoulder with my fingertips. He paused as if thrown off of his game for a few seconds and then began blabbering 90 miles a minute again.
"Yeah yeah whatever you say, but anyways, a manipulator can, key word manipulate, anything. Objects," he pulled out a few books from shelves by partially looking at them, "people," he looked over at Logan and cocked his head to the right causing Logan to completely turn around, "and even time." He raised his hands, obviously referring to the room around him.
"Well what's Logan?" I asked jerkin my head up towards his frozen body.
"Well, why don't you ask him yourself?" He raised his hands, unfreezing the room and everything continued as if never frozen.
"My brother was cool to hang out with when we were younger," Logan continued, I secretly scanned the room looking for Avery, "but when girls and grades and sports became big parts of our lives he changed and got competitive."
"To be competitive you actually have to have competition little bro." Avery scoffed as he reappeared, obviously listening to our conversation.
"I could never understand why," Logan continued, "I loved my brother, and when he died it was devastating, but, he never really seemed to care about me." I looked over at Avery expecting him to have his usual 'I don't care' attitude. But instead I saw a look on his face I know very well, remorse..
I just wanted to clear my head, find a place to lie down and think for a bit other than my room. Yet, every time I find myself wondering for a new place I end up in the wrong place. So here I am again, lost for the umpteenth time, and all I can gather is that I'm in the west wing of the house.
"Sup," said a familiar voice,
"Hey Avery, do you know where we are?" I said In frustration. He shrugged, "Beats me, he had the house fixed up after I died, so I just pop up wherever I see a pretty girl no matter where I am." He smiled at me and I shyed away blushing.
"So this has been bothering me for hours now," he squinted his eyes and looked over at me, "how come I can see you and Logan can't? At first I figured it was because you can choose who you want to see you, or something selective but I can't seem to-" he cut me off with his laughter.
"Slow down, alright." I nodded, " so I know this isn't what you wanted to hear but I actually don't know why you can see me. Logan's had girls over here before, I mean multiple girls and none of them could ever see me no matter how inevitable I made myself. I guess you're just, special." He slightly smiled at me and I didn't know whether to feel flattered that he thinks I'm special, upset that Logan has multiple girls over, or frightened because he doesn't know why I can see him. I looked over at him and he stopped.
"Why'd you stop walking?" I asked.
"I don't know? I feel like I can't move."
"Well back up and then walk forward again." He did as I suggested but when he tried to walk forward he couldn't.
