You were the one I didn't know where to stop.
Jisoo awoke to an empty bed. Her body was stiff from the odd sleeping position but that wasn't what bothered her—Jennie was gone.
The sun was high; it was probably close to the afternoon. Jennie must have left a while ago because her car was gone as well. Jisoo tried calling but it went straight to voicemail.
She went inside the house hoping Ella or her mother was there so she could get a clue to where Jennie was. In the kitchen she found a different albeit familiar face.
"Mr. Im, you're home," she said in surprise.
"Jisoo? I didn't think I'd ever see you here again. How've you been?" "I've been good, sir. You?"
"What'd I tell you about calling me sir? Sit down, let's talk."
Jisoo sat next to the man at the table. She explained to him her situation about the house. "I'm sorry about that. But I am glad I get to see you again." His smile was tired and worn but gracious; he was often the sole person who brought a feeling of home to the house, even though he was rarely there. "I was hoping to see my daughters and wife but nobody's home. However, I am happy to see you. Do you know where Jennie might be?"
Jisoo looked down at the table and spoke in a dejected whisper. "No, I don't."
"Ah, well she'll return tonight, right?"
"Yes."
Hopefully soon.
Jisoo hadn't spent much time with Jennie's father. When he was home, it was for a few days and then he'd hit the skies again. That was where his heart lay but Jennie saw it as abandonment. She believed that if he truly loved her, he'd choose his family over his passion. Jisoo could understand him somewhat but thought he was at fault more than he'd ever know. He was a good man, but not much of a father.
"Well I'm going to go to sleep on my bed. Haven't done that in a while." He tucked his pilot hat under his arm as he stood. "I really am glad you're here, Jisoo. You've always kept Jennie afloat, but, lately, I feel like she's been sinking..."
He paused, his eyes glazed over and when he resumed, there was so much sadness in his voice.
"I'm just an old man. She'll never tell me what's wrong if I ask and when I do, she tells me I wouldn't understand and perhaps she's right. But you, I think you would understand her. I was worried about her, but now, I feel like I don't have to."
He shouldn't have spoken so soon. For all they knew, Jisoo might have been doing more harm than good.*
Jisoo drove to Jinyoung's when she found out from him that Irene was going to stop by later. Irene was the last person who would be able to help Jisoo.
The two were sitting on Jinyoung's steps, laughing happily about something. It was nice to know Jinyoung and Irene were doing well. She flicked her visor up and commented on their appearance.
"You guys look like a married couple. Well, if married couples were ever happy."
Irene's blush fit well with the red frame of her glasses. Jinyoung just laughed, he didn't mind Jisoo calling them that.
"What brings you here?"
Jisoo slightly leaned the bike on her left leg and kept the engine running. She only needed to ask one thing.
"Have you seen Jennie maybe? Or heard from her?"
Both Jisoo and Jinyoung looked to Irene but the girl answered with a shake of her head.
