As you fell, Christmas decorations spewed from your bag which now had a giant slash through it. Landing with a grunt, flat on your back, you winced as a shower of tinsel and baubles fell on your face.

Sitting up you could see Clary fighting off some sort of horrifying dog. It was large, four legged and dripping black goo that looked like thick, hot tar. It smelled worse than hot tar. The smell stuck at the back of your throat and made you gag. Just as you tried to get to your feet an arrow whistled through the air, making you jump. Alec dropped down near you and drew the attention of the creature your way. Izzy pulled you up out of the way, somehow holding onto the building. You would have insisted on knowing how she'd done it if you weren't about to be eaten by some sort of rotten demon dog.

"Wonderful the elf came to save us." You said sarcastically as Alec dealt with it.

"I didn't have to." He snapped and glanced at you. Izzy helped you down and started to pick up your decorations, looking at each one curiously.

"Wouldn't you be shunned by the high elves?" You teased me. Alec frowned at you and snatched at a bit of tinsel that had been caught in a nearby tree.

"Call me elf one more time!" Alec said but before he could say anything else Clary pointed out that something had escaped down the alleyway and he hurried off with her.

"He'd make a terrible Christmas elf. Simon said they're small and jolly. He's far too grumpy." Izzy said as she moved to stand beside you. When you turned to look at her you realised that she hadn't been able to fit everything into your bags and was simply holding an armful of glittering decorations with a satisfied gleam in her eye similar to a cat who had just set their eyes on a christmas tree for the first time. You glanced away from her and saw Alec dashing past the end of the alleyway.
