Alec stared down at his feet. He could feel Izzy burying the urge to shout at her parents. Jace rubbed the back of his head and glanced around before excusing himself. They hadn't told him. Because it wasn't relevant. How could they not tell him. It seemed more than relevant and important to him.

"I can't believe you wouldn't tell us. Either of us!" Alec said as he finally found it within himself to move again. Izzy agreed and voiced her disappointment before following her brother.

"It isn't your fault."
"I already had a Parabatai. Mom and Dad picked one out and assured his parents I would be his Parabatai and now he's out there alone! What if his parents told him before he died. How could they not look for him!"

"Ok. So he'd been missing since his parents died. We'll find them. Yes ok. They were supposed to be your Parabati but now Jace is and I am sure he feels just as bad. We will find them and help them. Besides, just because they aren't your Parabati now, doesn't mean they don't like being her at the institute with us.

"Alec, Izzy?" Clary called. She rushed up the corridor to them and Alec sighed. "I heard what happened. Jace told me. I called Luke to see if he could do a missing persons report on the mundane systems. I figured it would help narrow down where to look... I mean. I figured you and Jace would want to find them."

Alec stayed quiet for a moment as he looked down at Clary. She seemed to panic for a moment as if she wasn't sure if she'd overstepped a line.

"Thank you." He said finally and then cleared his throat. "I'm going to talk to Jace."

"Ok, I'll start looking for them and check in with Luke." Izzy told him. She gave him an encouraging smile as she and Clary headed over to the computers in the mission centre.

With a nod of your head you smiled at the customers who left a tip for you. Your regulars waved and wrote their orders down on the note paper you gave them. They signed thank you as you brought their orders to them. You were more than grateful for your job at Taki's Diner.

Occasionally Magnus Bane would drop in and see you. He was the only person you saw regularly that would sign with you for hours. He was always cheerful when he saw you. As the lunch rush started you noticed a group of Shadowhunters entering and taking a corner booth. One of them you'd seen around before but the others were new.

As you finished serving everyone there was a tap on your shoulder. The taller darker haired shadowhunter started talking to you. He was talking so quickly you couldn't keep up with what he was saying.

After he was finished he stared at you for several moments before he blinked a few times and glanced at a girl who looked like she might be his sister. They started talking to each other rapidly. Then the blond boy hopped up, looking irritable and the redheaded girl started joining in. Just when you were about to back away the first girl got up from her seat, shooed the others back into the booth and signed. 'I apologise for my brother, he is pretty nervous. Are you the deaf Shadowhunter that knows Magnus Bane?'

You nodded and she rolled her eyes, glancing at the group who all looked rather sheepish. 'Will you sit with us. We have some things to explain about your family.' She signed. When you nodded she smiled and made everyone move so you could sit opposite her. She introduced everyone then started explaining everything that had happened. Finding out that your parents agreed with the Lightwoods to make Alec your Parabatai when you were both young. Jace becoming Alec's parabatai and then a lot of crazy nonsense about Clary that didn't make much sense.

Once she was finished she invited you to stay at the institute.

You took a few weeks to decide whether you would go to the institute or not. Magnus explained in more detail who they were. He also pointed out how bad Jace and Alec must have been feeling. The story of them crashing his party and demanding to know if he knew you had been highly amusing from his point of view.

When you had decided to move in Alec helped tirelessly to help you settle in. He lugged furniture about for you and helped unpack your boxes. After a few months you felt at home. The group tried to learn sign language from you and Izzy. Clary picked it up pretty well but much slower than Jace who seemed to pick it up fast and then forget the next day. Alec was bashfully hopeless. He tried his hardest and looked rather sweet with his brow furrowed as he tried to perfect each gesture.

"Where's Alec?" Jace asked as he found Clary and Izzy hanging out.

"I think he's with (Y/N)?" Izzy answered.

"Oh! Maybe he's teaching (Y/N) some fighting Tips. He mentioned he was a little nervous about helping us hunt downworlders but Alec said he was sure he could figure the perfect way he could help us." Jace blabbered on and grinned. He jogged off before coming back and saying he hadn't found either of you.

"Hi." Alec said awkwardly as he knocked on your door. Pausing he sighed and shook his head, laughing to himself. He kept doing that. When you spotted him he sighed hello. After a few attempts he managed to ask if you wanted to go to Taki's for a meal. He seemed to be blushing as he asked you.

When you nodded and signed back that you would he grinned and looked beyond flustered.

"Great!" He said then looking awkwardly at his hands and frowned. "I don't know how to sign that."

Izzy's laugh made him turn to the doorway and she shook her head as you signed. "He wants me to let you know he can read your lips pretty well, if you really need to you can use notes. He also says he'd be more than happy to give you one on one lessons." She winked at Alec as she left. He made an awkward face but you both laughed. 'Sorry I'm not great at this yet.' He signed.

'You're getting better everyday. You're much better than Jace.' You signed back and he laughed, glancing up at you as he shuffled awkwardly. He gave you a happy smile and seemed unsure what to do until you grabbed your coat and motioned that you were ready to head to the diner.
