As soon as Dr. Chase stepped out of his Sopwith Camel, Annabeth ran to him and gave him a huge hug. "Dad! You flew . . . you shot . . . oh my gods! That was the most amazing thing I've ever seen!"

Her father blushed. "Well, not bad for a middle-aged mortal, I suppose."

Toni turned away from the two and moved over to where Zoë, Thalia, and Artemis were. Zoë didn't look any better, and Toni felt her heart lurch painfully inside her chest for the umpteenth time that night. The wound on her side was exposed to the night air, and Artemis was holding her head in her lap, trying to make her comfortable.

Toni pursed her lips and knelt down next to Zoë, giving her a pained smile. Her body still ached from holding up the sky, and she was pretty sure the entire left side of her body was bruised, but Zoë was more important right now.

"Thalia, can I see your bag?" The daughter of Zeus nodded and handed the backpack that somehow miraculously survived the battle over to Toni. She opened one of the pockets and sifted through it, pulling out gauze, antiseptic, and wrap. "Zoë, I'm gonna try my best to wrap your wound. I'm no child of Apollo, but I have some experience in this field."

Zoë only nodded, though it was weak. Toni poured some antiseptic onto a piece of gauze and gently dabbed away the dried blood and poison. She winced every once in a while, which Toni apologized for. Once the wound looked clean, she placed gauze over it and wrapped it to hold the gauze in place. Toni made sure the wrap wasn't too tight before tying it off and giving Zoë a small smile.

"Thanks." she managed, and Toni nodded.

It didn't look like she was getting any better, so the brunette turned to see Annabeth and Percy still talking to Dr. Chase. "Annabeth, Percy!"

Percy glanced at her, and with one look in her sad eyes, he and Annabeth ran over to the group. According to Thalia, they had no ambrosia or nectar. No regular medicine would work against a magical wound. Even though it was dark, Toni could still see the pale face of Zoë, which was drenched in sweat. She was shivering, and the faint glow that usually hung around her was fading.

"Can't you heal her with magic?" Percy asked Artemis. "I mean . . . you're a goddess."

Artemis looked troubled. "Life is a fragile thing, Percy. If the Fates will the string to be cut, there is little I can do. But I can try."
