The weeks seemed to fly by as Izuku continued his job. He was able to evade his bullies for the most part. Mei had steadily been working on her inventions as they got ready for UA and their futures. Izuku and Aiawa even grew closer. The hero would always bring him a bento filled with delicious food.
Patrol tonight had been kinda slow with so few criminals lurking around. Izuku wasn't complaining, though.
Izuku ate his bento, courtesy of Eraserhead, and watched the city from a tall rooftop, listening for any signs of trouble. Hardly any cars drove by with how late it was. A small meowing sound caught his attention, making Izuku shift his attention to the alleyway below him.
Izuku peaked over the roof, watching as a kid was crouching next to a small cat, holding out their hand towards the scared animal. Izuku watched in fascination as the cat sniffed the kid's hand before slowly slinking towards them.
Izuku hopped down behind the kid, making sure his steps when unheard. Up close, he noticed the kid was a boy his age with purple, fluffy hair.
"Hey," Izuku called out lightly. He didn't want to scare the cat or boy off by being loud.
The boy yelped and turned around in surprise. Izuku watched his purple eyes widen in surprise before falling into a scowl.
"Who the fuck are you?" The boy calls out defensively.
"I'm Rabbit!" Izuku introduces himself cheerily. "I'm a vigilante."
The boy-Izuku really needs to learn his name- squints at him. "What do you want?"
"Can I pet your cat?" Izuku asked shyly. He's always wanted a cat but, Inko never let him.
The boy seemed to size him up, trying to see if he was a threat. Izuku sat down where he was and waited patiently.
A few moments later the boy nodded and gestured him over. Izuku grinned and got up to walk closer to the boy. He sat down again, only a few inches apart from the boy, and held out his hand for the cat to sniff.
"I'm Shinso." The boy- Shinso- said once the cat let Izuku pet it.
Izuku nodded and continued stroking the soft fur of the cat. "What's its name?" He asked once it had been quite a bit too long.
Shinso hummed and thought it over. The cat was small, most likely only a couple of months old. It was hard to tell the true color of fur it had since it was so dirty. Even so, Izuku caught hints of orange peeking through the grime.
"Sherbert," Shinso stated with an odd seriousness.
Izuku nodded with equal earnest and continued petting Sherbert. "He seems like a sweet cat. Are you going to take him home?" the vigilante questioned. Maybe he could visit Sherbert when he wasn't too busy.
Shinso looked like he was pouting and shook his head. Izuku's new friend looked kinda adorable. "I wish but, I'm already at my limit." Shinso sighed.
"Limit?" Izuku asked in confusion.
"My parents only let me have 4 cats." Shinso sighed. Though his expressions didn't change much, Izuku could hear the sadness.
"I can take him. I'll even give you my address so you can visit!" Izuku said excitedly.
"Have you ever owned a cat before?" Shinso questioned.
"No." Izuku pouted. "But with your help, Berty will have the best life!" He pumped a fist into the air.
"Berty?" Shinso's eyebrows rose high in shock. He looked mildly insulted at the nickname.
"Berty," Izuku confirmed with a grin. Sherbert seemed to perk up at the nickname, making Shinso groan in annoyance.
"Fine." Shinso sighed.
The two split ways after exchanging numbers. Izuku cut his patrol shift shorter and went straight home, hoping Mei wasn't home. He didn't was the cat to explode as soon as they got there!
Sherbert meowed as the two entered the front door of the apartment. Luckily, Mei wasn't home so, Izuku went straight to the bathroom to bathe Berty. As soon as Izuku turned on the water, he expected Sherbert to run out of his arms and claw his way to freedom from a cat's wet hell. Imagine his surprise when Berty jumped into the water. What a strange cat.
Once Sherbert was clean, Izuku thoroughly dried him and took a photo to send to Shinso. The tired boy replied with a thumbs-up emoji and a reminder to make sure Sherbert's ears were dry. Apparently, it could lead to an infection.
Setting a reminder on his phone to take Berty to the vet in the morning, Izuku climbed onto his bed to sleep. Sherbert was laying beside him, resting his furry head on Izuku's shoulder.
"You're a sweet cat, huh?" Izuku giggled. Sherbert nuzzled into his neck in response making Izuku huff.
The next morning, Izuku woke up to Sherber laying on his face. He picked up the cat and set him to the side so he could cough up the hair in his mouth. Berty meowed loudly and gave him a disgruntled look.
Izuku coughed and picked the bright orange hair out of his mouth. "Really?" he gave Sherbert a disgusted face.
The cat stretched and jumped off the bed, seemingly ignoring Izuku. Only then did the vigilante realize he didn't have any cat food. Maybe he could get some off of Eraserhead? Yeah, that seemed like a good plan.
Izuku quickly got dressed and put his vigilante costume into a backpack for later use. Once he had everything he needed, Izuku picked up Sherbert and headed toward the train station. The vet appointment shouldn't take too long and, during that time he could swing by Eraserhead's apartment.
Once he was at the right station, Izuku got off the train and headed towards the clinic. Sherbert didn't seem to mind the walk and was laying on his shoulders.
After signing the cat in, he went into an ally and quickly changed. It took 20 minutes to get to Eraserhead's home so, he needed to hurry.
Peeking into the hero's home, he saw Present Mic sitting on the couch holding some papers. Maybe he was grading something? He tapped on the window, startling the blonde hero. Izuku watched in amusement as papers scattered everywhere from the man's shock. Mic walked towards the window to open it.
"Can I help you, Listener?" Mic asked, confused.
"Yeah." Izuku nodded. "What's a good cat food brand?"
"You want- wh- huh?" Mic sputtered.
Izuku sighed. Why couldn't Aizawa have been the one to open the window. He jumped through the window, making Mic take a few steps backward, and continued his way to the kitchen. After opening most of the cupboards, Izuku finally found the cat food.
He took a few photos of the cat food containers and treat bags before shutting the cabinet doors. "Thanks!" He gave Mic a thumbs up before heading out the window.
By the time he was gone, Mic could only blink. Did that really happen?

When Izuku got Sherbert back from the vet, he was given all the needed shots and clear to go home. He didn't seem too pleased at the shots but didn't put up much of a fight. A strange cat indeed.
When he finally got home, cat food in hand, Izuku opened the door to find Mei sitting on his couch.
"Izu! Why didn't you tell me you got a cat?" Mei pouted.
"Oops?" He hesitantly giggled.
He was barely able to miss the pillow she launched at his face. Launched. With a miniature cannon. He was friends with a madwoman.
