Chapter Six, The Woes of The Lady of Lothlôrien
"Aragorn I need to speak with you." Lady Galadriel said with a slight frown upon her soft features as she looked to her son who was standing with the other members of the Fellowship standing on the bank before the boats bidding Haldir goodbye. "Is there something wrong, My Lady?" Aragorn asked concerned as he halted in his way towards the boats as he turned to face Lady Galadriel bowing his head respectively to her. "It is about my son." She said sadly as she looked into his eyes.
"You must have noticed it as well as I have." Aragorn licked his suddenly dry lips as he tried to swallow the lump that was in his throat. Of course he had noticed it, though someone who didn't know what to look for wouldn't have noticed anything amiss. But Aragorn had lived through too much and had seen so many things that no one should see that there was no way he wouldn't have noticed. Add to it he'd been dreading this happening to his Pen melui.
"A shadow has appeared in his eyes and his skin is losing its colour, his body is slowly losing its warmth." Lady Galadriel whispered, her crystal blue eyes shinning brighter than usual in the early morning light due to the tears she refused to let fall. "You know what I am talking about Estel." Aragorn blinked his eyes rapidly as his too filled with tears he refused to let fall. "He made his choice long before he knew he even had one. He has chosen you Estel, he chose to become yours, chose to be with you. You know what is happening to my son."
"The Evenstar is leaving him. He is becoming Mortal." Aragorn whispered through the lump in his throat that only seemed to have grown larger as Lady Galadriel spoke. Lady Galadriel nodded, her face set in a serious mask no look of the happiness that he knew of could be seen on her face or in her demeanour. "As the Shadow grows stronger his strength wanes. As Sauron's power grows, Calén's life diminishes. His fate is tied to that of the Ring. Keep that in mind throughout this venture; for if you were to fail. This would be the last time either I or Celeborn see our son." With that the Lady Galadriel moved off to continue giving out her gifts to the rest of the Fellowship.
Aragorn turned around his heart clenching painfully as he saw Calén laughing at something Gimli had told him. He watched as Haldir, Lady Galadriel and Lord Celeborn watched their friend/son in what they hoped wasn't the last time. As he looked around at the other members of the Fellowship he saw that they were almost ready to leave, his eyes caught those of Legolas's who gave him a look of sympathy as he too watched Calén laugh with the Hobbits and Gimli. He smiled at his friend but he feared it was more of a grimace.
It was as his eyes wandered off again that he caught those of his beloved's. Calén's lips tilted up into a smile, though there was a knowing gleam in his emerald green eyes. With a heavy heart Aragorn made his way over to Calén, knowing he had the eyes of the Lord and Lady of Lôrien and Haldir following him. "Calén." Aragorn said once he'd reached him. "I've made up my mind Aragorn." Calén interrupted him with his back to him. He sighed and turned around to face his love, he looked up at him with a small smile playing about his lips. "Whether by Shadow or by Time; I would have eventually died anyway.
There is no ship that can carry me from this world, for my place is beside you." Calén said, raising his hands to cup rough bearded cheeks, and pulled Aragorn down for a kiss. "You may be Isildur's Heir; Aragorn Son of Arathorn. And you will face the same trials, but the difference is you will overcome it. You have a strong heart and an even stronger will. I have faith in you, you just need to have faith in yourself." He spoke firmly as he looked deep into Aragorn's eyes. "Anyway," Calén spoke with a beautiful smile covering his lips.
"I still wish to see the vast expanse of sea fading into the sky as the sun sets on the horizon with you." Calén's words drew a chocked laugh out of Aragorn as he looked into those mesmerising jewel bright eyes. "And you will laemîr. You will." Aragorn spike after he'd licked his dry lips and swallowed deeply, wiping against his suspiciously wet eyes. "I promise you." Aragorn spoke se he pulled Calén into a passionate kiss. They ignore the catcalls that were coming from the two trouble makers known as Merry and Pippin. Calén blushed and rested his forehead against Aragorn's as said man wrapped his arms tightly around Calén's waist as if he was afraid Calén would disappear if he didn't.
End of chap 6! (I know it is shorter than what I usually do it but I thought that was a good place to end).
