Beep.

Beep.

Beep.

I awoke with a groan, the dull throbbing in my skull had diminished, leaving me with the constant agitating noise of the heart monitor.

I squinted my eyes as they adjusted to the blinding lights of the infirmary. The soft clicking of shoes as they travelled along the tiled floor being my only indicator that somebody was alive behind the curtain that my bed had been concealed in.

I tried to sit up, immediately I was met with the  pain in my stomach from where the knife was. I gingerly traced the brief outline of the stitches over my hospital gown which did nothing for my ass.

I huffed.

The curtain was drawn back and a nurse stepped in, she was about 60 with grey hair that was tied back into a bun. "How are you feeling?" She questioned.

"I feel like I got ran over by 14 buses." I groaned, she laughed gently. "That is to be expected, you were unconscious for a day and a half and you also died twice on the operating table, doctors had to resuscitate you. We think the sedative you were given in your neck was too much for your body to handle, along with the blood loss..." She trailed off.

"Huh. That's pretty cool." She stared at me dumbfounded, concern written on her wrinkly features.

"I'll let Mr Moretti know that you are awake, miele." (Honey) She replied awkwardly.

She left me to my own devices, silence consuming my curtained room. The constant rhythmic sound of the heart monitor disrupting it.

I shut the infirmary door before making my way over to where Mara was

I shut the infirmary door before making my way over to where Mara was. I pulled the curtain back to see Ares and Athena sleeping happily on the foot of her bed.
