ABOUT A HALF MILE down the road, Dick had found a nice barnyard for everyone to show off their skills. It stunk like cow shit and mold, but Phoebe knew it wasn't the best time to complain. Dick clapped his hands together.
"Okay, in order to work together, fight and defend yourselves like a coordinated team, we gotta see what each other can do." Dick looked around at the four, very exhausted and unenthusiastic. Phoebe was basically asleep standing up, Kory was trying not to inhale the stench, Gar seemed to be dazed off like he was on a different planet and Rachel looked like she could collapse on the floor at any moment. Dick shrugged his shoulders. "Any volunteers?"
No one spoke up, just looking around at each other to see who could go first. Phoebe raised her hand, speaking up. "I'll go first if you buy more pizza?" She smiled, still craving either a pepperoni pizza or stuffed garlic knots.
Ignoring her remark, Dick turned to Kory. "Kory, Rachel said you can create light. Heat, is that right?"
"Honestly, I'm still trying to figure it out," Kory answered, truthfully with a little bit of sarcasm lingering on her voice.
Dick nodded. "Okay, so let's figure it out together." Dick shoved his hands into his jean pockets. "How exactly does it work?"
Kory shrugged. "I think it comes from the sun. I can absorb its power and direct it." Kory answered, pursing her lips. "I'm weaker at night, though. Sometimes empty, and it takes me a while to recharge."
"How long?"
"A few hours, a day, I don't know."
Dick nodded, trying to process everything in the moment. "Can you control it?"
Kory rolled her eyes at the question, placing her hand on her hip. "Of course."
"Just get to the point," Phoebe whined, swinging her head back. "I just wanna see Kory blow something up."
Dick stepped to the side, pointing to a tractor in the back of the barn. "Could you hit that tractor?"
Kory cocked her head, stepping forward. "Watch."
Gar chuckled in amusement. Phoebe found it adorable. He reminded her of a little kid. Kory stood, facing the tractor. Dick stepped back, afraid of getting hurt in any way. Kory took a deep breath, suddenly her entire body started to glow red, almost looking like a star. Kory reached out her hands to the tractor and groaned, fire shooting out of them. The tractor caught on fire instantly, causing Phoebe's eyes to widen.
