Y/n POV
It's been one month since the tragedy that was this "game" began. Asuna and I had acquired significant strength in said time. I had met an aspiring blacksmith who made a matching vambrace for my right arm. I then went to an NPC vendor for a coat of chainmail and an overcoat that matched the dark grey of my vambraces. I had also got a longsword that did a fair bit of damage from a quest as well. With this new gear, my build was starting to take shape. I would take aggro, deal a consistent stream of damage, and evade with my mist step. Asuna gave it a name that I found ironic, cursed, and fitting all at once; an evade tank/DPS. without the context of how it worked, the name made no sense. But once you saw it, you understood it. We were heading to a strategy meeting on how to fight the floor boss.
Asuna: "You think we have a shot Y/n?"
Y/n: "Well this gathering is supposed to have some of the current top players but I can't make an estimate until I see them."
She didn't say it, but I could tell she didn't like my answer. This isn't a sweet situation so I wasn't going to sugarcoat it. We entered what looked like a small stadium. I scanned the people sitting on the bleachers to see what we were working with.
Y/n: "Quantity over quality... This could be difficult."
Besides us, there were thirty players in the stands. I didn't see a lot of heavy armor, besides one or two people. Most people appeared to have uncommon weapons, nothing crazy like Asuna's rapier she got last week. But there were a couple of outliers to this. A boy with black hair had a rare longsword that I wasn't lucky enough to get from an elite enemy on a quest to save some guy's family. The blue-haired knight had some pretty solid armor by the looks of it too. Other than that, nothing remarkable. We took our seats towards the top of the stadium and waited to see if others would arrive.
Knightly player: "Ok people! Now that-"
He was cut off by a pair of footsteps rapidly approaching.
??: "Sorry I'm late! I overslept."
I froze like a deer in headlights. I knew that voice! I whipped my head in its direction. That's when we locked eyes. She gasped, bringing her hands up to her mouth. her emerald eyes tearing up in the corners.
Y/n: "K-Koharu? Is that you?"
Koharu: "Oh my god... Y/n!!!"
She sprinted over to me and lept into my arms. I returned the embrace with fervor. I was so happy to see her again! But...
Y/n: "This is a bit bittersweet isn't it?"
Koharu: "But at least we'll be together in this place."
Asuna looked at me with confusion, to which I mouthed 'later'. She got the message and looked forward at the man in the middle. A wave of self-consciousness hits me as everyone in the stands was looking at me. I quickly sat down, red like a pepper.
