Y/n's Pov
You broke that promise a long time ago.
Those were the last few words she said to me before disappearing into the abyss, leaving me in the darkness of the park. As the streetlights turned off, shortly after she walked away.
I hung my head low due to the disappointment in my chest. I picked up the walkie-talkie that I offered her to keep, so that we could keep touch, from the park bench where she left it and I went to an automobile shop to buy a car. Yes, buy a car. My credit card is loaded because of my grandfather's business. I may not agree with the morals of the business, but I do have to admit... it works.
Not a lot of people know it but my grandfather is one of the richest people here in South Korea. He has an insane amount of connections within Korea as well as around the world.
I paid for a black W Motors Lycan Hypersport. Not really my dream car but it looks good enough to just use for a day. It has a really nice design. I normally get red cars but red cars are one of the most pulled over cars. I do not need to get pulled over by the police just because I need to go back to the island. What my grandfather is doing is illegal enough to get me in jail for the rest of my life!
I drove my new car through the streets of South Korea. I tried my best to not get any attention from the public. I drove all the way to a dock where I knew that my grandfather owned his speed boat.
Yes. An old man owns a speed boat. Do I know why? Not at all... but it is handy in times like this.
I still remember when I was a little kid, my grandfather would drive the boat up to the island where all the games were held. I always thought that it was just an innocent game. Little did I know, I was practically walking on hundreds or maybe even millions of cremated dead bodies.
I physically shook myself to get rid of the horrid thought and rode the boat to the island. There, I was met with the Front Man.
"Good. You're back. Now, you have to help us spread around the cards once again." The Front Man said through his mask.
"Wait... we're continuing the game?" I asked.
"Yes. It was obvious that almost half of them wanted to stay. And I just know that once they get a taste of the real world... they would want to come back. Even the people who voted against playing the games."
"B-but this has never happened before..."
"Yes. But the VIPs would be mad if we don't continue the game. You know how important the VIPs are. That's why they're called 'VIPs'."
"Ok... I'll help spread the cards... I just hope that she doesn't come back... even though my gut tells me she will." I said, saying the last part under my breath.
"I know what you're worried about." He said, putting his hand on my shoulder, in an attempt to bring me comfort.
"It's that obvious huh?" I chuckled out nervously.
"You really care about her right?"
"Yeah... I do. But I fucked it all up." I said, letting my head lie low.
"What do you mean?"
"She doesn't trust me." I sighed out.
"You didn't take off your mask... did you?" He said, his grip on my shoulder tightening.
"W-what?! No! It's just that... it's obvious she doesn't. I'm a Pink Soldier. Heck, I'm the one who gives the orders. You know? The one who's practically in charge in front of the players. Of course she doesn't trust me... she probably thinks this is all my idea!" I exclaimed, lying through my teeth. I did not want to get killed. I have to protect her. I need to... even if she doesn't know, even if she hates my guts. I have to protect her. I made a promise.
"Ok. Good. Now, go rest up. You'll have to spread out the cards to the houses of the players early tomorrow morning." He said, removing his grip on my shoulder and walking away.
I walked back to my room that was next to the rooms of the other soldiers. I had no friends in this place. Everyone here is just here for business and money. It was lonely if you asked me. I don't have a sibling, I'm the only heir. If I were royalty I would be ecstatic, but with this type of business... I don't even want to be a part of it. I'm just afraid that I'll get killed if I told my grandfather about my feelings. I don't want to die... that's why I have to do this even if it's against my own morale.
I went into my small room, all it had was a chair in front of a desk where I can eat my food and a single sized bed. For someone so rich, he sure does know how to treat his workers right! Sense the sarcasm there?
I took off my uniform as well as my mask and put it onto the desk. I laid my back on the springy bed as I thought about today's events. A lot has happened in the past twenty four hours.
I saw her again. I witnessed her survive a horrible game which consisted of a creepy gigantic doll... which by the way, tormented me when I was younger. I had nightmares about that doll and I think I'll have one tonight. I shuddered at the thought... where was I again? Oh yeah... her. At least she's safe... I think. But the number one thing that I just couldn't get rid from my mind was the last thing she said to me...
"You broke that promise a long time ago."
Those words just kept ringing in my head... damn... who knew that eight words could hurt so much?
Before I knew it, an announcement was made through the speakers, waking all of us up. Well, not all... I couldn't sleep thinking about what she said to me... what can I do to make it up to her? I rolled off the bed and put my uniform and mask back on.
A brand new day, a brand new start... oh how I wish it was like that.
