The Hard Part

Flower looked at the negative pregnancy test sadly. She and Berry had been trying to have a baby for about a year and still nothing. "Don't make that face," Berry said, coming in and kissing her cheek. "Why not? We've been trying for a year. Berry" Flower whined as she tossed the item in the trash. "I don't get it, I checked my ovulation and everything," Flower said. "Honey, the Lord works in mysterious ways." he said "that seems to be your answer to everything" Flower said a little annoyed. "because it's true. Even when we can't see it...." "Okay that's my cue," Flower said. "Look, all I am saying is we have to be patient. We are going to get our baby however God sees fit" Berry said. "Okay, so I want us to see a fertility doctor," Flower said. She saw her husband's face scrunch up in annoyance. "We don't need a doctor to tell us how to have a baby," Berry snapped. "Uh huh, what was that you talking 'the Lord works in mysterious ways" Flower snapped. "I'm serious Berry. There is nothing wrong with getting a little help with having a baby" she said. "I do not want to see a doctor to tell me what's wrong with me," Berry snapped. "They won't just tell us what is wrong, they will just help us," Flower said. "What if this is what God is telling us to do Berr..." Flower stopped and put a hand over her stomach. "Flower it has only been a year, many couples go through this" Berry said. Flower stepped away from him "I need to be away from you for a while" Flower said as she left. Berry didn't understand at all, so she got in her car and drove to Jenny's house.

Flower pulled up to her sister's house, her mind going back to her argument with Berry. Jenny was out in her garden and waved when she saw her. Flower got out of the car and waved. Jenny stood and took off her gloves and walked over. "Hey sis, I would hug you but I am dirty" she said pointing to her dirty overalls. "It's okay," she said. "Come on in, want some lemonade?" she asked. Flower followed her up the stairs and into the house. Flower sat down "what brings you over sis!" she called out from the kitchen. She heard the rattling of dishes and doors opening and closing. "I just needed to get away from Berry for a little bit." Flower said Jenny came in with their drinks and some cookies. "Trouble in paradise?" Jenny asked, placing the tray on the coffee table. "Paradise?" Flower asked, "yeah I strive to have a relationship like you and Berry" Jenny said plopping a cookie in her mouth. "Don't" Flower insisted, "so what seems to be the problem Flower?" Jenny asked "you know Berry and I have been trying for a baby" she began. Jenny nodded slowly "still no luck?" Jenny asked, Flower shook her head "so I want to see a specialist but Berry is totally against it" Flower said she almost felt like crying. "Oh let me guess he gave you a sermon?" Jenny asked, "you know it saying" "The Lord works in mysterious ways" they both said together. They laughed and Flower felt a little better. Jenny drunk her lemonade. "Keep going sis" she said. "But yeah I want to see a specialist and he is refusing to even talk to a doctor about it" Flower said. "Have you seen one already?" Jenny asked "no because I thought this would be something we both wanted." Flower looked at her cup focusing on the pink color of her drink. "I can't say I know how you feel sis. But I will say this, sometimes us women will wait our whole lives for a man to do right but sometimes we have to take the initiative. If he doesn't want to go, you go. I know it may be difficult for you to do it by yourself but sometimes you gotta" Jenny said. She reached over and took her hand "you're going to be a fine girl. Us Anderson sisters are strong" she said. Flower smiled "you're right" Flower nodded "I didn't mean to come here with my problems. But Ummie is going through her stuff with Brandon..." Aren't we sisters? You can come talk to me anytime you want. You or Ummie for that matter" Jenny said. "How are the girls with practice and all" Flower asked. "Same old same old..." Jenny stopped as if to say more. "What's up?" Flower asked "just worried I guess. Apryl wasn't at practice today or yesterday. She's been secretive since she got a boyfriend." Jenny sighed "I'm just hoping she isn't falling in my footsteps. She's so much like me it's scary" Jenny said. "Have you talked to her?" Flower asked "you think she wants to talk to her mother about boys and sex?" Jenny gave a dry laugh. "Try talking to her Jen, I admire how you have raised your girls on your own. All you need to do is talk to her" Flower said. "Easier said than done but I will give it a shot" Jenny said.
