The following morning while Elodie was getting dressed her phone rang. "El, Baby I'm sorry. I got caught up last night in some things....I'm sorry I didn't call you." He said his words both rushed and timid. "Easy, D. I'm alright," Elodie said, "You're two hours ahead of me back there, you were probably tired. I know. It all good," she said, Eldodie could hear David exhale a sigh of relief. "I thought I was gonna get my head bitten off." he chuckled. "I don't bite unless it's asked for you know that." Elodie teased quietly.

David groaned, "don't talk like that, I'm fast but I can't run nineteen-hundred and something miles out there." He said. Elodie giggled, "You'd try it." she hummed, "I've thought about it." he laughed. " I've got to head into my next class," He added. "Alright, tell the guys I said hi and tell my Dad Damien says hello." Elodie said. "will do, I'll try and call  or drop you a text at lunch, by ma - will talk to you soon." He said, Elodie giggled as he quietly tried to make kissy noises into the phone.

"Come on man that's just sad!" Gary, David's teammate's voice echoed in the background. "shut up, this is why you lonely." David called back to him. Elodie laughed, "Bye, D. Love ya." she said hanging up the line.

That short phone call had Elodie ready to face not only the day but a pride of lions if need be. She smiled down at her phone and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. It's funny, for the longest time she told herself that she was his rock, it only took her moving away for her to realize, he was hers as well. "I can tell him later." she thought slipping her cell into her back jean pocket. "Don't be late for school, Uncle Kenny will be yelling up here in a minute for your ass to hurry up." she thought, grabbing her backpack and heading for the stairs.

At school, Elodie walked through the halls, she still felt out of place without her old friends, and making new ones was harder than she thought. It seemed as though southern hospitality wasn't just a saying, these west coast girls seemed more closed off to the idea of a newcomer. Elodie could see Amber and the other cheerleaders talking amongst themselves. "I should go ask if they've decided yet." Elodie thought to herself, stealing her nerves she made her way over to them.

"Hello, Amber. any word on if I've made the team?" Elodie asked. The other girls fell silent as  Amber turned to face Elodie. "No and don't keep asking, it won't do you any favors," Amber said promptly turning her back to Elodie once more.

Elodie frowned, "Not a people person are you?" she thought to herself. with a roll of her eyes, Elodie wandered off. At the end of the day, she wanted to be on the team more than she wanted the last word.

"Elodie!" Jason called loudly cupping his hands around his mouth. She searched the crowded hall and quickly spotted him waving her over. "Hey Jason, Junior, what's up?" she said jogging over to them. "I feel like a 70-year-old man...why didn't you tell us your uncle was such a hard ass?" Jason asked. "You couldn't just look at him and tell? the man showed up in a suit...to Basketball practice." Elodie giggled. "We ran suicides for a whole hour." Junior nearly whimpered.
