I say hi to the waitress and she smiles at us and she leads us to a table facing the ocean. I breathe in as I take in the aroma of ginger and lemon. We tell the waitress what we want to drink and she leaves. Zayn looks at me and smiles.
"What?" I ask. He keeps smiling. "Oh nothing." He replies. I raise my eyebrows and look out the window. The sun was starting to set and the orange sky was laced with pink clouds. It was wonderful.
The waitress comes back with our drinks and take our orders. I order the surf and turf roll and Zayn orders the same. She leaves and I look at Zayn.
"Great minds think alike." I say to him and he laughs and nods his head.
"So, have you written any more songs since the cafe?" He asks. I clear my throat and fidget with my ring. The truth was that all the songs I have written are about him.
"Uh, yeah like 1 or 2. Or 5. They're not really good though so you wouldn't want to see them anyway. Actually, I should just get rid of them because they're super bad. Yeah, not good songs."
"You're doing that thing again," Zayn says. "What thing?" I ask.
"The thing when you're nervous and so you ramble to change the subject. That thing. Can I see the songs?" Zayn replies. I sigh and nod. I take my notebook out of my purse.
"You can look at the dog-eared pages and nothing else." I say as I hand him the book. He raises his eyebrows and he reaches out to take the book. He flips to the first dog-eared page and starts reading. He turns to the next dog-eared page. The waitress comes back with our food and I say thank you but Zayn doesn't notice. She leaves and I nudge him with my foot.
"Huh?" He looks up. I giggle and point to his plate of food. "Oh, I didn't notice." He says sarcastically. I smile. The sushi looks so good and I immediately grab the chopsticks on the left side of the table. I take the first roll and stuff it into my mouth. I hadn't realized how hungry I was.
"I didn't know you were left handed." I hear Zayn say. I look up and wipe my mouth.
"Oh yeah, I didn't realize either." I joked and he smirked. He looks behind me and frowns. I furrow my eyebrows and turn around. There are at least 10 paparazzi with big flashing cameras taking pictures of me and Zayn eating. Zayn stands up and grabs my hand. I stand up with him and we walk through a back door. I've never noticed it until now. We go down a dark hallway with lightbulbs that looks like they haven't been changed in years. Zayn walks fast and its hard to keep up. It gets brighter and Zayn lets go of my hand. We walk a little farther until we go through another door. We emerge out into an alleyway. Zayn starts walking towards the street again but I grab his hand. He turns around confused.
"We have to get away from the paps. Why are we still standing here?" He asks, coming closer to me.
"The street has too many people. I know where we can, where we can go to get away from them and the paparazzi."
"Lead the way then." He says nonchalantly and still holding his hand, I walk towards the cave on the beach I took him when he told me he was famous. It was dark considering the only light source was that from the full moon of the star-filled night. Zayn lays out his jacket for us to sit on and we sit down on it. He sighs.
"I'm sorry about all this, Liv." Zayn mumbled. He puts his face into his hands and it's obvious he's upset.
"It's okay, Zayn. But, how did you know about the secret door at the restaurant?" I asked. "This same thing happened a year ago when I was alone and one of the workers showed me it." Zayn replied. I nodded and started speaking. "Are we gonna stay here forever or should we go somewhere?"
