Snowflakes fell continuously in a steady fashion, spiraling down to join the rest that blanketed the earth. The car trekked up the treacherously steep mountain road, at times only mere feet from slipping over the edge and falling into the oblivion of the canyon below.
I gritted my teeth in anxiousness as I continued to read my novel. I was always able to read in the car without feeling nauseous, so on long road trips, I was often immersed in the latest book I found.
"Still reading those cheesy vampire romances eh?" Frank chuckled, momentarily taking his eyes off the road and glancing at the book cover.
"Oh shut the fuck up! Just let me live vicariously through the main character and have my hot vampire love story fantasies come true." I retorted with a slight pout. "Keep your damn eyes on the road so we don't die anyway."
"Okay, okay, take it easy there, I was just teasing." He defended. "Just as long as you don't stan Twilight unironically, we're good."
"Yeah, sparkly vampires are just lame." I agreed.
"How long 'til we get there?" I asked for about the hundredth time.
"We're almost there finally. I don't know how much longer I could have dealt with your constant whining." He said, relieved.
Just as he said that a tall extravagant brick building came into view. The hotel was beyond fancy looking, the intricate molding and trim work on the outside looked like it would have taken them years to finish. Countless balconies overhung a vast valley of snow-capped trees, making for a grand view of the surrounding nature. A massive fountain fixture sat in the middle of the court where vacationers would enter the dark ebony doors of the establishment. Carefully maintained hedges flanked the court. All this to say, I was astounded.
"Holy shit, we get to stay here?" I asked as if we got the address wrong.
"Yep!" He responded popping the 'p'.
Frank backed the car into a free parking place and popped the truck. We grabbed our luggage and scurried toward the entrance.
As we creaked the doors opened, we were engulfed by a wave of warmth. The short walk to the doors had caused us to become slightly cold and snowflake-covered, so the heat from the fireplace brought small smiles of satisfaction upon our faces.
We made our way to the reception desk to check in, both of us walking in awe due to the elegant furniture and exceptionally high ceilings.
"Hello, we'd like to check in..." Frank greeted the lady at the front desk.
I immediately tuned out the conversation. Instead, leaning against the counter and looking around the room. The lobby consisted of very few guests. I guess that's the beauty of coming during the off-season.
Continuing my people watching, I scanned the rest of the room. My mouth fell slightly agape and my heart skipped a beat. There on the lobby sofa was the hottest person I'd ever seen. His inky black hair hung messily over his enchanting half-lidded hazel eyes that were fixated on a comic held firmly in his porcelain hands. He was as pale as the fallen snow but that didn't take away from his attractiveness at all.
I couldn't help but stare as he flipped through his comic, there was just something about him that drew me to him. I was thinking about talking to him, that was until,
"Hiya there," a petite man with a mess of black hair greeted, snapping me out of my trance. His hair wasn't a long disheveled mop like the hot guy reading a comic's was, but shorter and all over the place.
"The names Billie Joe, and you are?" He said with his hand placed on his hip, a twinge of arrogance in his voice.
"Uh, Y/n?" I said more like a question rather than a confident answer.
"You aren't from around here, are you? I would have recognized a pretty face like yours if I'd seen it before." He said making his intentions clear.
"Uh yeah, we're actually-" I was caught off before I could finish my response.
"Y/n let's go check out our room!" Frank chimed in excitedly, jerking me towards the elevator and away from that uncomfortable situation.
We hurried toward the elevator, luggage in tow, boarded it and Frank pressed the button for our floor. As the compartment began to rise Frank said, "What did that guy want?"
"Oh just introducing himself and all, I don't really know myself," I explained without really wanting to rehash the conversation I shared with the stranger.
"Okay, I was just wondering..." He trailed off.
Soon we arrived at our floor and stepped into the hallway. We wanderer looking for the proper room number. Eventually, we stumbled upon it and entered, dropping our heavy bags with a huff of relief.
We got situated and decided to spend the rest of the day relaxing in our room. After the long drive there it was well warranted.
After the late afternoon and evening wasted away watching whatever was on the television and eating room service, I was back to my 'cheesy vampire romance' book as Frank put it. It was around eleven 'o clock and neither of us was even close to getting sleepy. I continued to flip through the pages as Frank did something on his phone. A tranquil silence had overtaken the room's atmosphere.
But the quiet moment was soon shattered by what sounded like a blood-curdling scream ringing out through the building. My body lurched forward, bringing me to sit up in bed. My heart raced and a queasy feeling settled into my gut.
"What the fuck was that?" I said a bit frantic.
"I don't know," Frank replied, furrowing his brows slightly in thought. Seconds later a mischievous smile pulled at his lips. "It was probably just somebody having a bit too much fun," he said devilishly.
"Get your mind out of the gutter, Iero! That wasn't a moan it was a fucking scream like somebody was in pain." I contended, waving my arms out in defense.
"Okay, why don't we go down to talk to the front desk and see if they know what's going on. Would that make you feel better?"
I nodded and we got up and made our way down the stairs since suspiciously the elevator was out of operation.
From then on our simple vacation had taken a turn, the unexpected seemed to occur.
A/n: Billie Joe is portrayed as kind of an asshole, but I don't think he's like that irl. I just wanted to clear that up real quick.
