Rexy met Sasha right outside the lunch hall.
"Hey, Rexy... Where have you been? I've been looking for you all day." Sasha asked.
"Well, I needed to hear some news from some people since I missed the scene this morning, I knew if I asked you, you would give me something sense less." Rexy said, rolling her hair around her finger.
Sasha rolled her eyes and went into the lunch hall.
"What news?" She asked as Rexy caught up with her.
Rexy shrugged, counting her steps.
"Well... I heard that you fought Will for Wayne."
Sasha's eyes widened an angle.
"I? Fought for Wayne? How is that even possible!?" She said in surprise.
"That's not all... I heard that when you were done beating Will up black and blue, you took Wayne away to smooch." Rexy added stiffling a giggle.
"HILL'S DEN ARE BUNCH OF RUMOR MONGERS!" She shouted with wide eyes.
Rexy chuckled.
"No but... How sensible is that supposed to be? Wayne! Of all people." Sasha said in disappointment.
Rexy took her hand and smiled.
"But, its not such a bad thing..."
"It is such a bad thing!" Sasha cut in. "Wayne? He's so... I don't know... He's not the kind of guy that I get attracted to, you know... I dont know... He's just so full of himself and... I don't even know." She said.
They took their trays and went over to their usual table.
Gwin Fisher was there, obviously waiting for Rexy.
"But what really happened?" Rexy asked as they say down.
Sasha shrugged and explained what happened to Rexy.
"You mean Wayne Heather?" Gwin asked with his mouth full.
"Gwin, she's talking to me." Rexy snapped.
"I'm sorry." He muttered
"You should be! You're a guy! You're not supposed to like gossip." She said turning her attention back to Sasha.
Sasha giggled.
Rexy shrugged. "You know Hill's den... They always have something to say about everything."
Sasha sighed.
"So, how far have you two gone with the project? Is he cooperating?" Rexy asked.
"Well, we just spoke about it yesterday... But we are supposed to meet at lunch, I don't know where he is, maybe he's not come yet." She said looking around the hall.
"He's over there." Gwin announced pointing his thumb over his shoulders.
The two girls looked towards the direction and saw Wayne on a table, on his own as usual.
"Oh, maybe he just came in. How come we didn't see him." Rexy said
"No.. He was here all along." Gwin said.
Sasha looked back at Wayne.
"Why didnt he come over here? We're supposed to plan our project." Sasha said.
"Maybe, he doesn't know you're here." Rexy guessed.
"Nah... You know Wayne... He's probably waiting for you to meet him, I bet he saw you two come in." Gwin said.
Sasha bit her lower lip and looked at Rexy.
"See what I'm talking about? He's so proud!" She said and took her tray and strolled over to Wayne's table.
She dropped her tray on the table and dropped to the seat.
He didn't look up from his tablet but he said.
"You didn't have to waste that much time, you know."
Sasha spread her hands in horror.
"You were waiting for me? Why didn't you come over you saw me walk in." She said.
"My butt's stuck to this seat for lunch." Wayne said dipping a fry in ketchup
"It should be stuck there forever!" She fired with a roll of her eyes.
Wayne looked up at her.
"Look Sassy, no time for your whining, lets get this done." He said. "You do know Mr Calisso shortened the time for the project, so we have less than a week to get it done."
"I know. We'll have to do this in the lab." She said
"We were not the only ones given the project, Sassy. Every time I go there to take a peck, the others are there... Some of the nerds and non-nerds." He said.
"We can find a space there, I'm sure." She said with furrowed brows.
"There's no way I can concentrate with a crowd." He answered.
She rose a brow.
"How do you do in class.?" She asked.
"Nevermind that!" He snapped. "We could stay after school." He suggested.
Sasha hesitated.
"After school? I don't know.." She muttered.
He looked at her in disgust.
"Hey! I thought you cared about this project more than I did? What's wrong with staying behind after school?"
"Nothing! The thing is... I have an appointment today."
Wayne scoffed.
"Appointment?" He said in mockery.
"Yes. It's very important and I won't want to miss it for anything." She said.
Wayne laughed and she wondered what was funny.
"Ok... What's this appointment all about." He asked leaning on the table.
"Its my appointment, it's my business, so don't be a pocknoser." She said and took a gulp out of her smoody.
"Oh, I'll stay out of your business... As a matter of fact, the only thing connecting us right now is this stupid project." He said icily.
"Of course." Sasha agreed
There was a silence between them for few minutes except for the crunchies and cacklings of their spoons.
"You're coming to the dance on friday?" He asked suddenly.
She looked at him in slight surprise.
"No. I have stuff doing." She replied.
"Me too... But the thing is... We could come... Not for the party, while its going on, we could go over to the lab and get things done." He said suggestively.
Sasha thought of the possibilities for a while.
"It's a good idea... But don't you think some others might think the same way?" She asked
He shrugged.
"Who in Hill's den would want to miss this annual dance?" He asked.
"The n..."
".. Even the nerds." He interrupted
"Ok.. Ok. Fine." She said "Friday works for me." She answered.
"You didn't have a choice." He said concentrating on his food once again.
She glared at him.
"Oh.. I forgot! I'm actually going to the dance..." She lied. "With Will." She completed, stressing Will..
Wayne looked unaffected as he threw another ketchup dipped fry into his mouth.
"You have two days to go over to him and tell him that you've changed your mind before friday." He said not looking away from his food.
She furrowed her brows in doubt.
"Why would I want to do that?" She said. "Because, you'll do the project on your own if we don't do it on friday!" He said getting angry for a reason he didn't know.
"Now, is that a threat?" Sasha asked.
He looked at her in annoyance.
"Yeah! I don't care about this project as much as I care about not dipping my fries in ketchup!" He said.
Her brow lifted a bit
"Oh... Then I guess I'll have to do the project on my own because, I'm going on the dance with..."
"Well, get lost... I have nothing to do with you!" He snapped
She looked taken back by his outburst.
"Hey. Chill, Wayward... I'm only kidding." She said.
"I don't care!" He said grumpily.
"Friday it is, ok! Now, calm down." She said.
He said nothing..
She studied him for a while.
"Can I ask why..."
He stood up abruptly to her surprise.
"See you later!" He said harshly and took his tray, leaving the table.
Sasha watched him leave and wondered why he would pick offense when she was unserious about going to the dance.
Or maybe he was... No. He wasn't jealous. Why would he be.?
Then why did he just get angry because she said she was going with Will. She wondered.
No. He wasn't angry... Just his normal mr grumpy mood. She'd better stopped exaggerating.
