August 3, 1973

"Hello," Lizzie yelled through the Potter's house. She had always come for dinner on Fridays. Sometimes they were waiting for her, but sometimes she had to announce herself. She was hoping Sirius would be there, as it had been about time for him to get back.

"Liz!" she heard Sirius' voice screech before the barreling of footsteps. She got to watch him trip down the stairs, and she tried not to laugh about it.

"Oh my God, are you okay?" she ran to his side.

"Liz!" he leaped up as if he hadn't just fallen down the stairs and squeezed her tight. How had he grown that much in a month? Only one month and he was so tall. Maybe he was growing that rate at school, but she just saw him every day. It wasn't hard for him to pick her completely off the floor to spin her around. He still wouldn't let her down, even after one satisfying spin.

"I missed you so much," he said into her hair, his head was over her right shoulder.

"Are you okay?" Lizzie asked. She had prepared herself for the fact that he would be there, but more so she prepared herself for the disappointment that he wouldn't be there.

She got to spend a month worrying. She would try not to. She spent time at the Potter's, even brought J around for dinner once. She got to catch up with her muggle friends, who helped her figure out what to write in her letter to her school boyfriend. They had fairly frequent letters. Lizzie would sometimes be able to get a reply, write back, and get another reply when she would spend time with James, but when she sent letters to him from home, it always took a while. Sometimes her owl flew faster than other times as well.

They had decided that they were a 'thing' whatever that meant. Lizzie was sure that she fancied him now. If she didn't, she wouldn't have kept writing to him. She enjoyed his company, and she thought it was a bit cute that he let her win their game of wizard's chess. He sent her moving pictures of his family that moved, and she sent back pictures of her own little family. She sent the picture of Will and J and explained how Will was J's father. She had talked about it before, but she thought that seeing how much she did not look like that man might make it seem more real.

He said that J looked like he had a fun personality, so Lizzie let J write a little letter to Dan as well. She hadn't told J that they decided they were a thing. She just knew that would lead to Will asking a million questions. He had taken up the job of being her father, just like he did when he still lived with her mother. So, nobody at home would be hearing that Dan was any more than a friend.

Lizzie continued to write in her diary over the summer. There were quite a few confused entries about Dan. There were also a lot of entries about her worry for Sirius. Even when she was able to have fun, she still worried greatly for him. Her muggle friends would ask her where her mind was (a lot like how the marauders did) and she would tell them that she was just thinking of her friends at school.

Her muggle friends also asked her a lot about her hand and new old-looking tired expression. She explained that she cut her hand on glass, while that wasn't the whole thing, they believed that. She also explained that her fancy boarding school gave out a lot of homework. That seemed to cut it for them. They were now all completely different people, but Lizzie still hung out with them. Out of necessity, and just to have a part of her life that wasn't cloaked in magic.

"What happened?" Lizzie asked again when Sirius still hadn't answered. He was still hugging her, holding her with her feet dangling off the ground. He must be half a foot taller than her now, maybe more.
