Everything hurts.

My should aches, arms are sore, swollen lips and I can't seem to be able to open my eyes.

I can hear talking though, and movement around me. So I tuned out all of the pain and listen to these voices that seem oddly familiar.

" what's the verdit? Is he going to be okay?"

" yes he isn't as bad as what his daughter was."

" will he wake up is the question though. This man has been through a lot."

Their voices seem sad, as if the pitied me in some way, or felt sorry for me.

With great effort I tried to open my eyes. It took time but I was eventually able to see my surroundings. I was in a hospital, wearing one of those blue and white gowns with an IV was sticking out of my arm, and my foot was wrapped in white plaster, while my shoulder was securely in a bandage.

A women was standing next to me, pressing buttons on a box connect to the IV.

She looked at me when I turned my head, and smiled

"Hello sir, I'm glad to see your awake." she had an Australian accent, and was quite pretty with her brown hair that went just above her shoulders dangling on the sides of her face. But she looked depressed. I wondered why for a time.

"I'll go get the doctor, I'll be right back." with that she touched my hands that lay beside me and left without saying another word. I stared at the door she left though, I want to ask questions, I want to know where I am? What happened after I fell asleep? Where was my Annie? Why did the doctor compare me to the way she 'was'? Have they saved her already? Was she awake and happy? Was she asking for me? Can I see her?

After a couple moments she arrived back with a small smile on her face, it was barely noticeable, but I could tell she was dreading something.

"Now, Mr. McConnel, your injures aren't serious, the worst you got was some broken bones in your left foot, as you can probably tell." he let out a small chuckle, " but you also had a minor blood lose, and a couple bruises. But the good news is that you can go home as soon as we get the paper work done." he smiled "now do you have any questions?"

Only a couple hundred.

"yes, a few." My voice sounded off. Hoarse and rough. Like i hadn't had a drink in weeks. It wasn't my voice.

"Where is she?"

"Where is who?" the doctor looked at me in confusion, silently asking me to clarify what I meant.

" Annie, my daughter, Annie! Tell me where she is!" I was getting impatient. I just wanted to hold my daughter.

He looked very shocked by my out burst. But his shock was quickly covered with sorrow.

" I'll be right back, sir," and with that he left, while I sat there staring at the empty door way, my anger building.

"I am very sorry sir." I forgot the nurse was still in the room. I looked at her then, tears were brimming in her eyes.

But before I could ask her what she meant by that, she followed the doctor out the door.

What had happened to Annie. What did they do to my little girl.
