Relief and sorrow filled me as she squeezed my hand in return.

She was alive, but barely. And it's all my fault. I crashed our car. If I had just paid attention this wouldn't have happened.

Annie should be happy being a kid, not fighting for her life in the snow.

I had failed her, and Lauren too. I promised to keep her safe, a simple task, and I couldn't do it.

"I'm so sorry Annie. I failed you. You and your mum. I'm so sorry honey."

If only she could understand how sorry I was.

If only she could understand what it is like to be a parent. To be constantly worrying about your child.

If only she could understand what it is like to watch your daughter dying.

To see your child in pain.

To watch as they suffered deeply.

Pulling her into my arms, I wished that I could take her place, only so she wouldn't suffer. So that she wouldn't be in pain. And she wouldn't have to comfort me.

That's when I realised how weak I was being.

My twelve year old daughter was comforting me while I was crying of her dying body.

I should be comforting her. I should be trying to calm her down.

Wiping away my tears, I stood up out of the snow, bring Annie up with me, carrying her bridal style in my arms, I began to walk again. Walking towards help. Walking onwards the only place that could help me.

Staring at nothing ahead of me, I made a promise to myself and Annie.

"I will be strong for you. I will not rest until you are safe. And I will never fail you again."

Annie stirred in my arms. That small movement of her body showed me she heard my promise.

I can't let her down.

I won't fail her again...

Not my best chapter but ya know... There a good ones, then there are ones like this one..

But it does relate to me in one way or another so.... I think it is 50/50.

But it will get better.... I promise... Muhahahaha
