"Are you tired at all?" Namjoon asks after dinner, and I shake my head no. "Well, it's still pretty early...wanna have a movie night?"
"Sure. Sounds fun. With lots of popcorn and candy; total junk food, right? You can't call it movie night if you don't have snacks." I point out.
"Oh, don't worry, I have snacks. I have all of your favorites, and I'll make some popcorn."
"Can I trust that you won't burn it?"
"Come on, N/n! It's just popcorn. I promise, that, I can handle it."
"Okay. Don't start crying if the smoke detector goes off." I tease, and he shakes his head.
"I won't. I got this, promise! Why don't you go and choose something to watch; unless you already have something in mind?"
"Oh, I've got quite a few things in mind," I smirk, knowing this'll be my choice for an activity.
He raises an eyebrow. "It better not be some stupid gory-horror movie. I'll watch it with you, but it definitely is not my first choice."
"Now, why would I ever pick something like that?" I ask innocently, batting my lashes. "It'll be some cute family-friendly Disney fantasy movie!"
He furrows his raised eyebrows now, crossing his arms. "Really?"
I burst out laughing. "No. Absolutely not. I can't," I say laughing, "yeah. We're watching a nineties slasher film."
"Why can't we watch a rom-com?" He asks, and I shake my head.
"Because romance movies are always cringy and predictable, like the western Hallmark movies. It's always the same subplot, and it's the same with fantasy movies. If the female lead didn't get wronged by some douchebag then she wouldn't find her Mr. Right, and then the hero doesn't have some tragic backstory with some power-hungry villain going after them who wants to kill them before they conquer their hero's journey."
"Wow, someone holds some hatred for fantasy romances. What, never read any of that literature without one of the typical stereotypes?"
"Not exactly, no," I reply. "Look, I can appreciate literature much the same as you or the next person, but some of these authors have to try out some different tropes. I'm sick of reading the same stuff. This is why I prefer my murder mysteries and psycho-thrillers; at least every time I read one of those there's a different plotline. I read this...very interesting fantasy novel for school at the beginning of the Fall quarter, and there was absolutely no good romance whatsoever. The lead protagonist was totally stuck-up and all work and no play. It was weird; it was like subjective fantasy fiction mixed with science fiction, and I couldn't keep up."
