It's been two months since I came back to the real world.
I went back to my old job filing customer complaints, back to my old routine of getting bored and hacking into random things, back to calling my parents once a week to see how they're doing, back to hanging out with Milo and Lexi, back to living paycheck to paycheck, back to being normal.
Except for one thing.
I face time a fictional man every night before I go to bed.
Baron Helmut Zemo.
My Husband. We talk for hours, laughing as he tells me about the random things he did, or me crying because I miss him or I just feel overly emotional for some unknown reason.
Luckily, tonight is not one of those nights.
"So what did you do today, Darling?" He asks, smiling at me.
"Oh you know, filed a million complaints then hacked into things," I say nonchalantly, "the usual."
"Oh?" He grins, "what did you hack into today?"
"FedEx," I chuckle as I take another bite of my cherry cordial ice cream.
I seriously need to chill with the ice cream I've gone through three large cartons this week already.
It's fucking Wednesday."What's with you and messing with people's packages?" He laughs as he leans on his hand, laying on his side.
"I donno, it's just fun," I giggle.
"Glad to see you're in a good mood tonight," he chuckles, "I don't like it when you cry, especially since I can comfort you like I used to."
I remember how he would cuddle me in bed, or on the couch, or anywhere else I needed a cuddle session.
I hear the front door unlock and Milo quickly comes to my bedroom.
"You know there's this thing called knocking," I smirk at her as I take another bite of ice cream.
"You're still feeling okay right?" She completely ignores my jest, "no headaches or anything?"
She comes over every other night to make sure nothing has changed since I first came back.
"I was a bit nauseous earlier but I'm fine now," I set my ice cream aside on my nightstand and sit up more in bed, "say hi to Helmut."
"Hey, Zemo," she says, leaning over my shoulder to look at him on my screen.
"Hey, Milo," he gives her a smile, "did you call James?"
"Yeah I called on my way here," she plops down on my bed next to me.
"You know, we are probably the champions of long distance relationships," I nudge her.
"Hell yeah we are," she grins at me.
We giggle and Helmut grins at us.
"Are you talking to auntie Y/n?" I hear a little boy ask.
Nathaniel.
"Yeah, you wanna say hi?" Helmut asks him back as he sits up.
Nathaniel comes into frame and he waves at me.
"Hey, Nate," I wave back and smile at him, "you guys visiting for a bit?"
"Yeah, daddy said he needed a break from work," he grins.
"And you little stinkers need a new hunting ground," Clint says coming into frame as well, tickling Nathaniel who giggles happily, "hey y/n, hey Milo."
"Hey," we say at the same time.
"How long are you guys staying this time?" I ask.
"Just a few days," Clint shrugs.
"I'm going to watch the kids for them at some point so they can have a date night," Helmut says as Nathaniel tackles his dad off the bed.
Helmut and kids.
I like the idea of it.
"That sounds like fun," Milo chuckles.
There's a click sound and Helmut flinches.
"Did you just shoot me with a nerf dart?" He asks looking at someone in front of him.
"Um no?" I hear Cooper laugh before the thudding of his feet running down the hall.
I wonder if Helmut would want kids.
"What are you thinking about, Darling?"
I'm snapped out of my thoughts.
"Nothing," I smile, "just dazed out for a second."
"Okay," he smiles back at me, "has Milo figured out what's going on yet?"
"No I haven't yet," Milo grumbles, "it doesn't make any sense. The story ended so there shouldn't be anything tethering her to it."
"Maybe it's cuz we never actually had a wedding?" I offer.
"Maybe," she huffs, "but I would think you would have stayed in the story if that were the case."
I shrug.
"Well whatever it is, I hope it either never gets fixed or it means you get to come back to me," Helmut grins at me.
"Me too."
"You know what I find even more odd?" Milo interrupts.
"What?"
"That I can't get back in," she says, her brow furrowed, "if the story is technically still going, I should be able to pop in, but I can't."
I just shrug then look at the time.
Almost midnight.
"I need to get off here," I sigh, "I've got to go to work at seven tomorrow."
"Alright," Helmut frowns, "good night, love you."
"Night, love you."
I end the call and toss my phone somewhere else on the bed.
Milo gets up and starts to head for the door to go back to her own place.
"Oh hey," I stop her.
"Hm?" She stops in the door way.
"Could you put the ice cream back in the freezer?" I grin at her.
She rolls her eyes with a smirk and comes back to grab the carton.
"Lazy ass," she chuckles.
"Only when you're here," I grin wider.
"Night," she shakes her head as she walks out the bedroom door.
"Night."
I hear the freezer open and close, followed by the front door soon after as I get up from my bed to change into sleepwear, close my door, and turn off the light.
I jump into my bed, shifting the pillows and blankets until I've basically made a nest around my body and nuzzle in.
My thoughts drift back to what I was thinking earlier.
If I could get back, would Helmut really want kids?
He had said once before that he did, but it could have just been in the heat of the moment.
Would he?
