Narrator's Pov.
Blaze knelt down and slid the bear across his broad back. He slowly rose to his feet, and started to walk toward the cave. As he walked he could feel blood dribbling down his arms. These wounds weren't as grievous as the wounds he received from the howler, but they still hurt. They would be healed by nightfall though and it was around noon now.
(Here's the cave mouth, just imagine the forest floor is just more rock wall.)
When he finally got to the cave he struggled to carry the bear up the wall but he somehow managed to do it. He slid the bear off his shoulders and grunted as he shifted to his human form. "Songbird!" He called out as he started examining his wounds. The wounds were caked with dried blood but showed obvious signs of healing. This bear was obviously young because an older bear would have inflicted much harsher wounds on Blaze. "Songbird!" Blaze called out again. After a few minutes of her not showing up Blaze went to find out what the hold up was.
In the nest he found Songbird staring blankly at the wall. "Songbird?" He asked as he knelt down in front of her. She was unresponsive, her blank stare never breaking. He repeated her name again as he gently grabbed her shoulders with his hands. What's wrong with you? Now Blaze was starting to get worried, this was not normal by any means. Not knowing what to do, he decided to try something a little louder. He let out a thunderous growl right in her face with hopes it would bring her back out of this state. Her eyes flashed red in response to his growl but nothing else changed.
He let go of her shoulders and stood up and started to pace. What do I do? What do I do? She's clearly here but not here. How do I bring her back? The wolf-man stopped pacing for a minute and just stared at her. Maybe I should leave her alone? No, I can't do that. She obviously needs me to be with her. But I have to skin that bear and tan its hide. Along with deal with its meat. Blaze paced for ten minutes before coming up with a decision. He was going to work on the bear, but Songbird was going to sit there by the laying-down-on rock. That way he could skin the bear and his protective urges would be met.
I'm going to move you okay? He gently wrapped his arms around her and lifted her off the ground. Yet still she stared off into oblivion, not even noticing she was being moved from the nest. Blaze carried her from the nest to the rock. He carefully set her down and leaned her against the rock before going back for her blanket. Once he was back he wrapped her in it and positioned her so she would be facing the nest. He did not want her to see him skinning the bear, for all he knew it would scare her.
After he was sure Songbird would be okay, Blaze begrudgingly went to work on skinning the bear. It was much easier than when he was young but much more lonely. Did he miss his father? Of course not. Did he miss his brother? Very much so. Did he miss how he and Malacoda used to have so much fun together? Yes. But as much as Blaze missed his brother, he knew he'd never see him again. Once Malacoda turned fifteen he told Blaze he couldn't stand living with the man who killed their mother. He told Blaze that he would never take a mate for fear that he would turn into their father. And that was the last Blaze ever saw or heard from his older brother.

Flashback
"I'm going to the bar!" My mother yelled before she grabbed her purse and walked out of the door. I watched with glee in my eyes as she left. I may have still been tied to the chair and gagged so I am unable to speak, but the devil woman was gone! That's all that mattered to me.
"Now child it's just you and me." The Judge said as he walked into the living room with a glass of some kind of drink in his hand. I watched him with wary eyes, half expecting him to smash the glass and start cursing at me.
"There's no need to look at me like that Ember." He explained while using his free hand to pull up a chair directly across from me.
He sat in it and stared at me for a few minutes before using that same hand to loosen and pull the gag out of my mouth.
"Now tell me child, what is it like having a werewolf as a mate?" He asked while leaning back into the chair. I just blinked at him, how life with Blaze was was none of his business.
"Fine, don't answer me. But just know that I used wolfsbane to cover our tracks and scent. He will never find you." The Judge grinned. "How do you know that will prevent the wolf's tracking abilities?" I finally found my voice.
"I have sources on the inside, who with a little "bribing" tell me all the secrets there is to the werewolf. Like for example I know that your werewolf mate will likely either drive you to suicide or he will kill you himself. Simply because all his kind wants is lots and lots of children and they don't give a shit about their mates." He laughed before taking a sip of his drink.
I just blinked at him. That would definitely explain the writing on the wall in the cave. But I don't believe that Blaze would do that to me. If what the Judge said is true, then all Blaze would want from me is children and I'd be pregnant right now. That and he wouldn't give a damn about me. We've only had sex once and he obviously cares about me. He's made me a bed and feeds me everyday. He cares.
"You're lucky Ember. If I wouldn't have rescued you from that werewolf, he would force you to have his children until the day you die." "He wouldn't do that to me." I argued as I felt a deep rumble in my chest. "Yes he would! That's what happened to my sister. One of their kind kidnapped her, forced her to have his child, and then killed her in cold blood." A crushed look appeared on the Judge's face. But I won't fall for it. This man is nothing but a filthy liar.
"You lie!" I snapped back at him as that rumbley feeling in my chest got stronger. "What would I gain from lying to you? I already have everything I could ever want, I own this whole damn county!" He yelled as an unsettling look took over his face.
"How did you know that a werewolf had me anyway?" "I didn't. My men have been scouting that wolf's territory for months, looking for. Well it doesn't matter what they're looking for. During one of their expeditions they heard you singing some shitty country song. That's how I knew where you'd run off to when you left your mom."
I just glared at him, that rumbling feeling in my chest growing stronger. "Do you wanna know something Ember?" "Not really." "I bet your carrying that monster's disgusting offspring in your womb right now! Wouldn't it be great if you gave birth to it and I gutted the little thing alive while you watched?" A sick, sick gleam filled his eyes.
"You're fucking sick!" "I know." The Judge just grinned back. "I hope you rot in hell you filthy bastard!" "I've had enough of this." He grumbled angrily before he put the tape back over my mouth. "You're going to see Ember, that this is all for the best. You'll get to live out your days with people of your own kind, not an unpredictable werewolf who will inevitably kill you."
End of Flashback
Narrator's Pov.
With those words Songbird is snapped out of her flashback and brought back to the present. She slowly blinked and took time to adjust to the dim light of the cave, the sun setting let only a few dim rays into the cave. She couldn't help but think of how in the world she got from the nest to wherever she was.
"That was horrible." She groaned. If Blaze was in wolf form his ears would've perked at her words. He wanted to go to her but he stayed put cutting up the last of the bear meat. "What the Judge said can't be true. I can't be carrying Blaze's offspring." She whispered as she ran her hand over her blanketed stomach, it did have a small bump but that was from all the food Blaze fed her. Wasn't it?
All of a sudden Blaze's massive form filled her vision. "Songbird, okay?" He asked hesitatingly. "I'm alright." She said as she did her best to forget the odd thing the Judge said to her. Blaze knelt down and grabbed Songbird gently. He then pulled her into a bear hug. I thought I'd lost you to the here but not here side. He then let go of her and just looked at her with love.
"Follow." He told her as he helped her to her feet. Songbird followed close behind him, with her blanket wrapped tightly around her shoulders.
