21. Born

Time Skip Because Why Must Pregnancy Be So Hard To Write About?!

Spring was just starting to bring warmth back to the cold cave. Blaze knew that with spring finally here, their little pup would be born soon. Just the thought of holding his son in his arms for the first time made him absolutely giddy.

"Blaze! I'm scared!" Blaze was just returning from doing his business in the bathroom chamber when his lovely mate's screams filled the cave. "Songbird! What wrong?" He asked worriedly as he ran to his mate who looked panicked.

"I can't see. Everything's black." She cried as she reached out for him, in the total opposite direction of where he was. If this had happened earlier in her pregnancy he would be freaking out, but this late in it was nothing to worry about. It just meant the pup would be born today.

Wolf-man pups are born extremely ugly, so ugly that not even a mother could love them. That's why the mother goes blind the day her baby is to be born and she remains blind for seven days. On the sixth day the baby shifts from ugly puppy to less ugly human baby.

As much as Blaze wanted to explain to his mate that her blindness meant the puppy was coming today, he knew she would want to know why she went blind with every pregnancy she would have. It was just easier for him to act like he didn't know why. He would explain it to his sons, but he would make sure they knew not to tell their mother.

Just a few hours later the contractions started and so did the screams of pain. Unlike human labors, this one wouldn't be drawn out over long excruciating hours. It would be over rather quickly.

Blaze had everything set up and ready to go. He had moved her away from the nest and near one of the water pooling sites. That way he could easily wash off the pup and her once the birthing process was over. He couldn't just lay her on the hard cold floor though. So a ratty old pelt was placed under her, the pelt would be absolutely disgusting by the time the birth was over and would be used to wrap up the placenta in. He also had a rather new pelt to wrap his little pup in.

"I'm so hot. I want out of these clothes. Help me." Songbird whined as she writhed in pain and over heating. Blaze listened to his mate's pleas and helped her out of her clothes. He placed her clothes near her bags, out of the way of the birthing area.

Her contractions started getting closer together and the pain started getting worse. "Blaze, the baby can't be born now! It's too early. Our baby will die." She sobbed uncontrollably as she thought about her baby dying. Blaze cooed to her, trying to calm her down. She didn't understand that wolf-men pups only took seven months of gestation versus the human nine.

His cooing didn't calm her down though and the pain got worse. "I hate you! You did this to me! We're never having sex again!" She screamed at him as her body fully dilated and the pain got ten times worse. He smiled to himself, he knew she didn't mean that. She could never hate him.

"I think I'm gonna poop." She whimpered. Gross!

Blaze kneeled between between her legs and gently moved them apart. He could see a little fuzzy head but it wasn't coming out. Push Songbird! You have to push our pup out!
All of a sudden the pup started to come out on his own.

He reached towards the head and held it as it was pushed out. Next came the shoulders and then the belly. The hips, the legs, and finally the feet. He held his far too small pup in his hands. The pup had snow white fur with many streaks of goo and blood in it. It looked up at him with bright blue eyes. Tears started streaming down his face as he looked at his daughter. She wrapped her tiny hand around his thumb and blinked at him.

The tears got stronger as her grip loosened and she went limp in his hands. He held her close and silently cried. He knew his mate hadn't realized she'd given birth and he didn't want her to know they'd lost their first born. It would crush her far more than it was crushing him.
