How NOT to write a Vampire Diaries Fanfiction (including TO & Legacies)

theres a moment in which im checking out a story and they call the little mystic falls group the 'scooby gang'

now, has anyone ever actually called them this in seriousness? is it an actual thing on the show?

every time i read the word 'scooby gang' or 'scoobies' related to a tvd fic i want to burst into flames

it's a pet peeve of mine, yes i'll admit it

it's from Buffy the Vampire Slayer!

she literally nicknames her team the Scoobies because her friends always help her with whatever shit is happening in Sunnydale

but TVD never once did it let alone make a habit of it (sure maybe Damon once made the joke but it was once)

and is wouldn't make any sense anyway since the actual teenagers in the show never once got to stand by each other and fight together unlike other shows like Buffy or Teen Wolf, or hell even The Originals bc the family always stuck together

the first two seasons was full of secrets and lies between them but then Elena and the Salvatores are just bound to the hip most of the time

Caroline and Bonnie hung out a lot with Elena or each other or their own significant others

with the occasional mix of Tyler, Matt, and or Jeremy. and usually these three hung out a lot too

and thats it. they were never a team or have super loyal moments, and if the Salvatores had to choose (and this is early in the show like 1-3) they'd let everyone else die for Elena to live, like legit.

meanwhile, Caroline and Bonnie got more screentime and Bonnie decided (understandably) that she would reserve her magic and intentions for Caroline, Tyler, and the humans. sure it also included Elena but she focused it more on the others.

the thing about TVD is that when you have the Salvatores, they just intercept any real teenage meeting around them. they're two of the main three, so they're always there, but they have experience, a lot of it too, so not only does it give them a sense of authority amongst them but also makes them outsiders because of the fact that they're new in town and new to the rest of them

the Salvatore are constantly trying to find ways to keep each other and Elena alive, but that's it, if the rest of the people in the town have to suffer then fine, but that's it. sure, later on Bonnie and Caroline mean something to the brothers but the rest of them were never really grouped together, there was too much animosity between everyone to actually support each other and stay loyal. the only times they decide to work together is if they have a greater evil to deal with.

it's also basically another reason why The Originals was better than TVD, it was clear that the family always had each others backs, it was more serious, it was unapologetic. elena had a crisis every time someone or herself killed someone (understandably in the earlier seasons) but by the time she was a vampire for a while, she still tried to put her boyfriends on a high pedestal, talking about her morals and you know what morals are fine. but in The Originals they had bigger problems and had an evolved way of looking at it, and not just them but all of New Orleans, it felt like the universe got bigger by just having the main three supernatural factions living in the same city instead of bringing in new creatures or making hybrids or heretics over and over again.

this just turned into a rant about how The Originals is better, sorrynotsorry

anyway, just please try to avoid calling them the Scooby Gang or Scoobies, that isn't a thing in the universe and is also characteristically inaccurate
