MELODY

I'm standing outside. The sun is peeking through the clouds, lightly kissing my skin with its feather-like rays, birds are humming a joyful tune amongst clambers of trees, and people are walking rhythmically side by side. It's a wonderful day.

Yet I'm not allowed to enjoy it. Not with everything that's in my mind, anyway. That's why I'm waiting for the bus with the lunch group on it. I really need to talk to them, "the lunch group", and just get their opinion on things.

As buses inch past, one by one, time seems to slow down with each wheel that rolls in front of me.

Another bus gone.

Tick tock.

Another 4 minutes to wait.

And another bus halts to a stop.

Tick tock.

That's another 4 minutes.

Just as I am about to give up my wait, I hear a jumble of familiar voices restrict me from stepping into the bus before me.

"Yo, ma prostitute!" Shouts Grace.
"Ma, hooky!" Exclaims Leah.
Nope...these girls have no shame.

Slowly running towards the bus that they were on, I feel a bubbling feeling inside of the pit of my stomach. As if everything that I have been feeling is pent up inside of me, and is about to explode.

"Guys, I need to tell you something..." I start.

"No way!" Georgia comments.

"What?" I ask.

"You're pregnant aren't you?" Chiara winks

"Did u finally get the D?" Jokes Abi.

"No dudettes, I'm serious. It's not something to laugh about. When I tell you, please don't go all fangirly and dominant and tell me what to do and how to act?" I hope.

"We can promise nothing. The best that we can do is try." They all recite in unison, holding their right hand by their heart.

Why they have practised this, I do not know. What I do know, is that it bloody creeped me out, in addition to cause me to shoot each and every single one of them a squinted, accusing look.

"Let's get on the bus, this is going to be a long ride." I lead towards the bus.

~time lapse to when they get on the bus and a few bugging questions later~

"So he just asked you out like that?" They all pester.

"Yeah. I don't know what happened, it was so unexpected and all of a sudden. I think it was a joke though, you know- just a way to try and make me laugh. We barely know each other, it's definitely too early to be asked out on a date!" I usher.

"Mel, what are you talking about? He is so totally into you, how can you not see it?" Grace pushes.

I respond with a blank stare. "Grace you haven't even met Luke."

This earns and embarrassed 'oh'.

A thoughtful silence settles upon us, the sound of branches hitting the top deck of the bus melodically instructing our thoughts.

"Well then, I guess that we have nothing left to do but get you ready for your date!" Georgia exclaims.

"Bruh, stop acting so white!" Leah comments. "Go eat some KFC or somethin'..."
