Hello! Ok so these next two chapters were supposed to be part of "The Secret Gift" but I'm ditching it and starting over bc idk WHAT I was thinking whilst writing this so these next two parts are what was originally part of the chapter and I have separated them bc it just makes more sense.

Also just a heads up: if u have a habit of dying of fangirl attacks mainly based around hiccstrid like I do(oddly specific), then..... au revoir bc this thing is LOADED!!

No ones POV.

It was a cold morning. Freezing, in fact. I think only two Vikings had the right idea- Hiccup and Gobber were working hard in Berks forge on this morning. Gobber was just finishing up some last minute saddle designs and things like that, whereas Hiccup was working on something much different.

It had been a good couple of hours since the rising of the sun and Gobber was growing curious as to what his apprentice was working on. Not wanting to interrupt his work, Gobber pretended to walk back and forth behind Hiccup to get imaginary tools. Whenever he walked past, he would quickly look over his apprentices shoulder to try to catch a glimpse. After almost an hour of doing this without success, he gave up.

"Whaddaya working on there lad?" He asked from just next to Hiccup, who was seemingly hammering out some half molten metal.

"A gift for Astrid" he said quickly, still concentrating. Gobber swore he could see a soft smile spread across Hiccups face as he replied, so he decided to keep the topic going just for the fun of it(who wouldn't?).

"Ah yes. It's her birthday soon in' it?" He continued, wanting to see where this conversation would get them. Gobber knew the young boy loved Astrid, just as she loved him. They were equals, soulmates, if you will.

"Yeah, and I want to make this perfect for her" Hiccup replied, still doing an automatically good job on the axe, which was starting to take shape now. He had been working in the forge since he was 5, after all.

Gobber just nodded and continued his work on the saddles when he realised he really hadn't grabbed any tools to work with, which he didn't realise until he picked up an imaginary hammer and bolts and hammering the air.

"Well wait a second..." he mumbled to himself before he realised. "Oh. Forgot the tools" he exclaimed, earning a questioning glance from Hiccup as he had been walking back and forth behind him for the last hour.

As Gobber turned the corner to pick up the tool box, he saw a certain blonde walking over. He gave her a quick smile before getting back to looking for the right crate.

"Hey Gobber" Astrid said cheerily.

"Well hello there Astrid. What can I do for ya Lassie?" Gobber replied kindly, as always. Someone's in a good mood today, he thought to himself. Usually when she came around to the forge, she would either be looking for Hiccup so she could kill him for whatever reason, or to get her axe sharpened, which she would normally do herself anyways. Sometimes Gobber swore Hiccup was immortal somehow.

"Do you know where Hiccup is?" She asked him, already guessing.

"Where do you think he is Lassie?" He replied with a smile, gesturing to the rest of the forge.

Astrid just rolled her eyes at this and chuckled lightly. "Of course. Thanks Gobber"

Gobber watched as the young lady made her way over to where Hiccup was working. I'll just stay over here, he thought to himself. He wasn't about to ruin a moment!

Hiccups POV.

I had just finished moulding all the layers of metal together when I heard Gobber talking to someone in the other room. It's probably nothing, I thought to myself. He'd just be talking to a villager about saddles or something like that.

I looked down at my work and smiled. Nearly done. I put the head of the axe over to the side under a piece of fabric for it to cool properly before I blinded it to the handle, and moved on to fixing inferno. One of the metal rods snapped during training the day before and I was determined to get it done by this afternoon.

I was just starting to check over my sketches for what to improve on the fire sword when I felt warm arms snake around my waist and a chin on my shoulder.

"Mlady" I acknowledged, turning to give her a quick peck on the lips before half returning to my work- aka pretending to be concentrated, but Astrid can see through people like glass, especially me.

"Whatcha working on?" She asked casually, completely seeing through my pretending to be busy. I just smiled softly at this. I can never get past her.

"Just fixing Inferno. What about you?" I asked, half playing dumb.

"Coming to see you" she answered.

"Aaaaaaand why may that be?" I answered again, still playing dumb.

"Well for one because I'm allowed to talk to my betrothed and also because I'm cold and the forge is melting all the snow" she retorted, giving me a smart smirk, indicating she had won.

I scoffed playfully before adding, "oh yeah. How is the almost-twenty-entire-years-old girl today?" I said, earning a light punch on the shoulder.

"She's fine, but keep in mind you're still older than me!" She explained, chuckling.

"Only by (*doing maths in head* wait so Feb, March, April... so that's...) a month and a half!" I defended, raising my arms above my head and spinning on my heel.

"Still counts you dork" she concluded, playfully punching my shoulder again, which I was used to by now.

"So I'm a dork now am I?" I questioned, playing dumb again.

"You always were" she said plainly before adding, "But you're my dork"
