"In.. Love?" The words tasted odd on her tongue. She liked it. But she didn't know who he was in love with, better not get her hopes up. "So... Um, you know... This is kind of awkward. Um.. I- I love you." Aiden hesitated so Jayne quickly garbled "at least, I would.. If um.. If you got me that haircut?" She smiled nervously at him, convinced that she had said the wrong thing. Then Aiden laughed,
"I am in love with you, silly! Oh, and someone is coming later for that haircut." He paused, looking like he was trying to decide whether or not to ask her something. "You know, how you are a vampire and a werewolf... Can you.. Turn into a werewolf, you know... Like I can? Cause that would be really hooootttt.." Aiden grinned sheepishly at her.Jayne laughed, and smiled at Aiden.
"Yeah. I can turn into both. Werewolf, and vampire. I'm currently in my 'neutral' state. I would turn into a werewolf for you, but the nurse said no shifting. And if I turn into a vampire for you, my vampire instincts will take over me like they did with Sara, and I'll attack you. So, that's probably not the best idea." She laughed. It's felt more natural and easy, laughing and joking with Aiden, now she knew he felt the same for her as she did for him."Oh.. Never mind. He brushed his lips against hers and whispered huskily, "you are still incredibly sexy" Jayne laughed and pulled herself out of the wheel chair, towards Aiden. He scooped her up and took her into his cool, sleek bedroom with every imaginable gadget. They lay on his bed together, talking and flirting, holding hands.
Jayne smiled at Aiden.
Aiden smiled at Jayne.
They were happy.
They were content.
Until a knocking came at the door.Aiden jumped, startled. He kissed Jayne gently and walked towards the door. His father strode in and stared at Jayne. "Ah, nice work son. That's all the mixed bloods are good for." Jayne gasped, astonished at what the alpha was implying.
The alpha grinned grimly at Jayne.
"Keep your mouth shut." He hissed out the corner of his mouth after Aiden had gone to get drinks, and slapped Jayne across the face.
"Filthy half breed." He glared at Jayne, malice in his eyes, and strode out. Jayne lay on the bed, blinking tears away, stunned.Jayne lay there on the bed, waiting for Aiden. She couldn't believe that he was related to that man. No way. He returned, wanting to go further than kissing...
"Aiden, no. We can't. Your dad thought that, and look what he did to m-" Jayne stopped herself just in time. She had to keep her mouth shut about that. "We're not even married yet."
"Not yet." Aiden winked and then frowned. "What did my father do?"
"Just... What he said. Something about how that's the only thing half-breeds are good for. Y-you don't agree with that, do you?" Jayne asked.
Aiden didn't say anything, just looked at the ground. "I hate that man so much, I tried to run away from him so many times as a kid."
Jayne put a finger under his chin and lifted his head to look into his eyes.
"Your childhood can't have been any worse than mine." He tried to protest, but she stopped him by leaning forward and pressing her lips against his. His lips felt smooth under hers and tasted salty.Aiden pulled back.
"You must be exhausted. I left some clothes in your wardrobe, and some nightclothes in your chest of drawers. Goodnight."Jayne felt hurt, surprised at his sudden change of nature. But she heaved herself off the bed and into her wheelchair, and wheeled herself out. All the time, Aiden sat and watched her. She shut her bedroom door with a loud click, which had an air of finality about it.
Aiden got into bed without changing. He had blown it. His head remained on the pillow, but sleep did not come to him.
Jayne lay awake all night. She had changed into the silk robe left in her wardrobe, which felt smooth against her skin, but it brought no comfort. She was worrying about her relationship with Aiden. Had she blown it? What had she done wrong? Was it because she refused to go that far? Or was it something his dad had said? She didn't know. She tossed and turned all night, trying to find sleep, but it never came and she lay awake until the sun rose.
