The next few days were spent in a seemingly endless happiness. It felt as if Castiel was dancing among the clouds of heaven, the warmth that filled his chest like the strike of the sun's rays, spreading the heat throughout his whole body and leaving him breathless. It was his own personal heaven, and Dean only made it that much better.

They didn't do much. Gentle kisses here and there, a brush of the hands, and went about their days like they normally did. But it felt different. It wasn't just two people trying to live through their lives like before, but a deep rooted emotion that had finally reached the surface, beginning to bud with their love. Sure, ever since that moment, Dean didn't say those words, but Castiel knew it didn't matter.

The angel could feel it everytime he looked into Dean's mind, from the time a first coherent thought begins as he wakes, to the last thing that fades as he falls into slumber. The hunter didn't need to say it, because Castiel could feel that love without a doubt.

He should have known that this couldn't have lasted.

It was the second week in when there was a knock on the door after their classes had ended. Dean had offered to get it while Castiel finished making them dinner. There was a moment of silence, a moment of  incoherent mumbling, then a shout.

The angel was at the front door in an instant, his heart pounding with fear of what might be happening, only to come upon the sight of Dean being held against the wall by a shorter man with whiskey-brown eyes and longish hair. The angel relaxed from his panicked state, though his wariness still remained.

"Gabriel, could you let go of him please." Castiel asked, not bothering for greetings. His brother only gave his signature grin before he dropped the hunter, dusting his hands off. The archangel bounced over to his younger brother, giving him a warm hug before stepping back, surveying the black-haired angel.

"Castiel, it's good to see you alive and well." Gabriel commented, glancing over the angel once more before motioning to Dean, a disgruntled look on his face. "Sorry about that. He wouldn't let me through, so I sort of had to use force."

"After Michael, you think I'm going to let any of you dicks with wings come in here?" Dean muttered, clenching and unclenching his fist. Castiel gave him a reassuring look, motioning to his brother.

"This is Gabriel. Don't worry about him, he's one that you can trust." Castiel assured. Dean just let out a huff, muttering about finishing dinner and stalking into the kitchen. The angel watched him go before turning to his older brother, who was staring at him expectantly. "What?"

"Him? Really Castiel? Your taste in guys are terrible." Gabriel said with a wrinkled nose. Castiel rolled his eyes. He had to admit, he missed his brother's snarky comments.

"Why are you here, Gabriel? Surely you didn't come all this way to talk about the hunter." Castiel questioned, squinting his eyes at the archangel. Gabriel instantly got a worried look on his face, biting his li.

"I came to warn you. Michael....he knows you're alive." Gabriel said softly, making Castiel freeze in place.Of all things he had expected his brother to say, that was not one of them. "I came to put up angel sigils that could protect you from him, for a while at least, but you need to be prepared. They can't hold him off forever."

"How does he know?" Castiel asked, swallowing the bile that was rising in his throat. Gabriel took a step back, shaking his head. Castiel knew that meant that he didn't want to know, and took a shaky breath, fear invading his heart.

"Let's just say, he's as mad as hell." Gabriel muttered, taking another step back. He looked around the area they were staying in and bit his lip again. Slowly, he began tracing on the walls, angelic grace left behind his touch and forming symbols. Instantly, Castiel felt the pressure of the symbols pressing at the door, making him shiver.

"What about you? When he figured out you helped me, he's going to..." Castiel trailed off, deciding not to finish that sentence. Gabriel shook his head, a small grin appearing on his face. The angel knew that his older brother was just as worried as Castiel, but he also knew that Gabriel was the best at figuring things out quickly.

"I'll go into hiding. I did for hundreds of years last time. I can do it again. Besides, you never know. I might not have to." Gabriel claimed casually, shrugging his shoulders as if it didn't matter. The facade of not caring didn't convince Castiel, but he went along with it.

"As long as you are safe, Gabriel. I wouldn't want anything to happen to you." Castiel offered, looking over as he heard Dean walk out of the kitchen. He could tell by the hunter's face thta he had heard everything that happened, his forehead creased with worry.

"Thanks for caring, kiddo. Let me get finished with the sigils and I'll be out of your way. You, hunter, come with me. I need to talk to you, alone." Gabriel said, motioning for Dean to follow him as he walked into the next room. Dean and Castiel exchanged glances before the hunter followed the archangel, his body tense with wariness.

Dean followed after Gabriel until they reached the kitchen. The archangel turned, leaning against the counter, and studying the hunter. Dean could feel the angel pressing against his mind, trying to read his thoughts. Sure, Castiel could do it cause he trusted him, but this angel was a different story.

"I want you to take care of my brother. Okay, hunter? I know you, and I know what you've done. Hell, you're famous in heaven, and I'm going to trust you to care for my brother. Deal?" Gabriel said bluntly, not bothering to beat around the bush. Dean frowned, looking over the shorter man before sighing, nodding his head.

"Of course I'll take care of him. What do you take me for?" Dean asked with a huff, looking almost personally offended by Gabriel's question. The archangel smiled, though the worry still pervaded his eyes.

"Then you'll need this." Gabriel said, a weapon sliding from his sleeve into his hand. He held it out to the hunter, who took it. "This is the only thing that can kill angels. You're going to need it."

And with that and a flutter of wings, Gabriel was gone.
