Chapter 9: Assessment

        When people in the Zombie Apocalypse started developing, I was one of the hopefuls who was dreaming of getting a strong ability. My twin brother Jonas at that time has already gained his abilities. People who were saved by him admired that he didn't just develop one but two abilities.

Wind and Fire.

On the people that I encountered on Zombie Apocalypse, he was the only one that I know that has two abilities. Not that he just has two abilities, he even used them in very creative and efficient ways. Because of that, he became one of the powerhouses in North America.

He who can stand toe and toe treated as equals by those great powerhouses. Maybe, he exceeded even some of them that cause them to be wary.

That guy, my twin brother... I'm so jealous of him.

Unlike him, I only developed one ability. I was okay with one ability at that time. As long as I know that it would be useful and powerful. But, it's a pity that the cruel God decided to play a joke with me.

Analyzer.

That was the name that the people named on my ability. As the name has implied, I can analyze and examine things.

My daydreams were shattered when I learned my ability. It wasn't an offensive ability that I can use to attack or defend against zombies.

It was a support-type... No, even calling it support was considered an insult. My ability was trash. If it was a useful ability like heal, regeneration, buff, or amplifier I was fine with those.

But I was given with a trash ability.

In the zombie apocalypse, my Analyzer ability was useless. For me to use my ability, my sense of sight was needed. The better my eyesight was, my ability would be reliable and valid.

Unfortunately, I am myopic. I am nearsighted, which means I could only see things near me.

I can only use the ability when I am near the subject or target of my skill. If I use it for the zombies, then I would be instantly bitten to death. Other than that, It takes time to get the results of my skills. The time is dependent on the target of my skill. Analyzing objects cause less time than analyzing humans, zombies, and mutated plants and animals. Lastly, my skill required a focused state. It only needs some kind of disruption for my ability to get canceled.

In a world of Zombie Apocalypse, where the zombies aren't just those slow and rotting undead flesh. Where those zombies grow stronger and evolve in different types, My ability is useless.

I am just an ordinary human compared to those other ability users in the Apocalypse. Those people thought that since I was the twin brother of Jonas who not got only one but two elemental abilities, I would also gain an amazing ability.

Once my ability was revealed, I destroyed those people's hopes and expectations. Those who treated me kindly because I was someone who has a high potential and expected to reap the gains revealed their true faces and didn't hide their disdain and disgust on me.

Rumors started behind my back, at that time when my relationship with my twin brother was okay, he decided to deal with those people.

But at that time, the damage was already done.

The relationship that maybe he was hoping to mend with me was already fractured. Anger towards other people started fostering. My resentment against Jonas became even worse.

I didn't thank him for dealing with those people. I am an ungrateful bastard. But looking back at those memories, what is done is already done. I don't regret those moments even a little bit.

Now as Chun Young-Soo, I would be tested again for my potential. With Young-Soo's parents in tow, we arrived at the Hunter's Union building in Cardiff, Wales.

The Hunter's Union was a global organization responsible for the management of hunters and observation of the rifts and dungeons. Not only that, each of the Hunter's Union established in each country was connected to the government and they have also one of the goals of maintaining stable and peaceful relations not just the people under their jurisdiction but also the people of other countries.

People who experienced awakening are required to be tested by the Hunter's Union according to the law. Another reason than that was the Hunter's Union has the monopoly on Assessment Orb. It was a device that was created by the Hunter's Union that was able to evaluate the potential of an awakened person and also learn their skills.

It reminded me of my ability to analyze which makes me feel uncomfortable. My analysis ability has brought me nothing but pain and ridicule from the people during the apocalypse.

Once we arrived inside the Hunter's Union, we are welcomed by the receptionist who has a professional smile on their faces. They were very clean and hygienic. They look lively, healthy, and with no speckles of blood on their clothes or body.

It would lift my mood every time that I stare at the people of this world who were different from the people back in Apocalypse.

When we are asked what is our business with the Hunter's Union, Young-Soo's father replied.

" My son is awakened. We wanted to know his potential. "

After that, the receptionist told us to head to the 3rd floor of the building. When we arrive, we were given several papers that we needed to fill up and Young,-Soo's father asked questions which were answered by one of the people there.

" Would it be painful? "

He asked them with a frown on his face. Even it was painful, I would be fine since my pain threshold is high. I can prepare myself for any pain mentally but I am not certain about Chun Young-Soo's physical pain threshold.

" You don't need to be worried Sir, there wasn't any pain involved with the assessment process. There are also no side effects with using the assessment orb. "

After a while, I was guided to a plain room. The receptionist left after escorting me inside the room. The walls and ceiling of the room are color white. There wasn't anything in the room but a stool and an orb placed on it. Other than that, there were communication devices placed on each corner of the room.

There is no window that I can see inside the room but before I entered there were those glass panels. On the outside, there were Hunter's Union personnel and Young-Soo's parents who would be watching my orb assessment.

[ You can now place your hands on the orb for 5 minutes, Mr. Young-Soo. ]

Nodding slightly, I prepared myself for the result of the assessment.

[ Assessing Potential.... ]

[ Loading... ]

[ 10 skills detected. ]

Starting at the orb, I was left dumbfounded.

Ten skills? A smile was revealed on my face.

But it quickly disappears when the result of my first skill came out.
