"Huhhh??? You guys got 90s on your tests?" Lev asked the other first-years at practice. Midterms were coming up, and he'd just barely managed to escape with a B– which he had thought was pretty decent, but the other first-years were putting him to shame.
"Don't feel bad Lev, I'm only in class 1 after all." Inuoka said shrugging and putting away his 100 as the four of them walked to practice. Teshiro had gotten a 100 too, naturally (and he was in class six), and Shibayama had escaped with a 94. Lev had an 81 and was kicking himself for not studying harder, even though he thought he had.
"I have so many borderline Cs..." he muttered while they entered the gym and set their bags down.
"I mean, as long as you're not in the 60s you should be fine, they won't kick you off the team." Shibayama said in a futile attempt to cheer him up. Lev just looked at him with a pained expression.
"What's this I hear about our struggling kouhais?" Kuroo asked as he approached the first-years. Kuroo was very proud of Nekoma's relatively high GPA, and he would be darned if it dropped lower than Fukurodani's or Karasuno's, both of which they would be seeing at the second training camp in a week or so.
"Lev thinks he failed his English test, he didn't do that bad though." Inuoka supplied before running off to go start stretches with Fukunaga and Yamamoto, already in the center of the gym.
"Ihh, English, that's not really my strong suit..." Kuroo murmured. He was very proud of his grades, but languages were where he struggled the most, preferring things like math and sciences. A grin slowly crept across his face (which Kenma spotted from the other side of the room and sighed at) as he added, "But Yaku happens to be very good with English!"
The whole team had become very invested in yakulev, the anticipation and suspense growing each day Lev asked Yaku out. Even Kuroo was curious to see how this would play out between the two of them as the year progressed, and he had no problem helping the rest of his team try to get them closer.
"Ohhh, you think he would help me?" Lev asked excitedly. Kuroo had to restrain himself from doubling over in laughter, eager to see the expression on Yaku's face when Lev approached him and asked for help. He was already getting out his phone and texting the Nekoma – yakulev groupchat to hurry up and get out after practice so Yaku and Lev would be alone.
"Uh, Lev, why don't you wait to ask him after practice though?" Kuroo suggested, in the event that Yaku tried to send Lev to someone else for help.
"Good idea Kuroo-senpai, thank you!" Lev said gratefully, looking forward to Yaku possibly helping him study. He ran off after that, joining the rest of their teammates who were slowly making their way to the circle where they were still stretching.
Practice went about as would be expected. Everyone was working hard and getting ready for the training camp, looking forward to hopefully crushing all the other teams this time, and playing with friends that so many of them had made (even Kenma). After it was over, everyone practically sprinted outside, once again leaving Yaku alone with Lev.
"Oi, where'd you guys all...go..." Yaku mumbled when he got back from the locker room, only to find the gym dead empty. Almost, anyway.
"Yaku-sannnnn!!!!!!" The unmistakable voice of Lev hollered from down the hall. Yaku winced as Lev came running over to him, stopping just a foot away. He fixed his composure and sent a cold look Lev's way.
"Yaku-san, I have something I have to ask you–"
"No." Yaku said flatly, starting to walk towards the gym exit. Once again he was stuck with the irritating underclassman he most definitely did not like in any way shape or form because that would be ridiculous for several reasons.
