Everything was black around me, I did not know if I had my eyes closed or if it was just dark, but I could not see anything. My body was paralysed, I could not move or do anything, the only thing I could feel was a warm sensation running through my veins.
A low muttering started to come from everywhere around me. I could hear voices, people talking but I could not recognize the language, it was definitely not English or any other language I had ever heard. The voices increased in loudness every second as if they were getting closer and closer to me. Suddenly one of the words sounded familiar, it was the same word I had been hearing from those creatures, the same word that made the beast turned to me so angrily, a word that now I knew very well: FAIRTHEOIR.
"Doyle? Can you hear me?" A familiar voice broke through the muttering in my ears and brought me back to reality.
"I think he is waking up," I heard Tyler say and I forced my eyes to open.
"Hey, welcome back," Dana said and the relief in her eyes made me smile a little.
"What happened?" I asked, looking around, finding my self in a hospital bed, wearing a medical gown and with a lot of sensors sticked to my body.
"You took a nap after fighting that creature," Clark said from a chair next to my bed.
"You mean, after the creature kicked your butt?"
Tyler fought to contain his laugh, tilting his head to hide his mouth while Dana smiled at me, with a light in her eyes that made me feel better somehow.
"What happened to the creature?" I asked.
"I was about to ask you the same thing," Clark said, standing up and walking a few steps towards me. "There is no trace of the beast, only bodies and blood."
"The last thing I remember was the Reaper, cutting me with his knife, after that everything is blank," I explained, trying to remember.
"I remember seeing something..." Clark said. "The Reaper... I think... but my memory is fuzzy, to be honest I don't know if what I remember really happened... I mean, the guy was floating in the air... I must've imagined most of it because of the concussion." Clark explained, with a confused look in his face.
"I don't think you imagined it... The Reaper was there, and he was floating in the air... the last thing I remember was him going to join the creature..." I added.
"You think they are working together? Maybe the Reaper helped the creature escape," Tyler said.
"No," I said, remembering the expression in the face of the Reaper. "I don't think they work together... I saw the face of the Reaper and he looked at the beast with anger... I think the Reaper killed it..."
"But if he killed the creature, where is the body?" Clark asked.
"The last creature turned back into a man after it died, and so did this one. Have you checked the identity of all the bodies? Is there anyone that doesn't belong here? Maybe a tourist?" I asked Clark, putting the pieces together.
"You think this creature is also a tourist, like Henry Brown?" Tyler asked, thinking the same thing I was thinking.
A theory was forming on my mind, a crazy hypothesis that started to seem more and more likely, but I needed more proof before I could say something.
"Tyler, remember the luggage in Henry's room?... there were more pictures there, right? Do you still have them with you?" I asked, feeling an exciting sensation in my stomach.
Tyler looked through his pockets and handed to me a bunch of photos. I could feel the eyes of everyone on me while I went through the pictures.
"This one," I said and gave one of the photos back to Tyler. "I bet one of the bodies in the hospital belongs to one of the people in that photo."
