After a quick stop at Tylor's office, to drop off the wheelchair, Tyler and I went straight to the hospital, arriving there just when the down in the horizon.
"Are you sure it's a good idea to show up here, you know... being the main suspect of the attack?" Tyler asked, looking a bit worried.
"It is fine. They can't prove anything, and I don't care what people think anyway," I said, feeling very confident in my ability to tolerate hard looks.
We went straight to the wing of the building where they had Dana, which was also the same where they had my father.
I was deep in thought, thinking if I should go and check on my father after talking to Dana, when I felt Tylor hand on my arm.
"What is it?" I asked, turning to him.
"Isn't a little dark here? Shouldn't be brighter inside of a hospital?" He asked, with his eyes fixed on the dark hallway in front of us. After a quick look I realized the lights were mostly off in the whole wing.
"You are right," I said and immediately took the gun from my belt and pointed it to the front. "Stay behind me," I ordered him and started walking slowly through the hall.
"What do you think is going on?" He asked, lowering his voice, and looking at my gun.
"I don't know," I replied, without taking my eyes off the hallway in front of me. I could feel in my skin that something was wrong. "Where is your sister? What room?"
"203, it's in the next floor," he said.
With the gun still in my hand, we went through the exit door and up to the stairs towards the second floor, one step at the time. I was nervous, after all I had been through in that town, I was not sure what to expect anymore in a situation like that, plus it was hard to keep a grip on my emotions when I could feel Tyle's nervousness behind me.
As soon as we opened the door of the second floor a scream tore through the dead silence, making us both shivered. It was the scream of a woman, a terrified woman.
"What was that?" Tylor asked, horrified.
"That was your cue to call the police," I said, hardening the grip on my gun. "Stay here, I will be back," I told him and after taking a few deep breaths I stepped inside of the hall.
Suddenly a shape appeared from around the corner, scaring me to death. I was about to pull the trigger when I recognize the face.
"Dana?" I asked in disbelief, while she ran into my arms. "Are you okay? What happened?"
A second later, Tyler appeared next to me, checking on his sister with a worried expression in his face.
"It is here," she said, with a terrified look, and somehow, I knew what she meant.
"But he is dead... I saw his body," I replied, holding her face in my hands, trying to see the truth in her eyes.
And then that horrible and now familiar shrill sound resonated throughout the building, making us tremble unexpectedly.
"Fuck," I muttered, and I could not move for almost a minute. In all my life as a detective I had seen horrible, terrible things that could make the bravest men tremble with fear, but not me. Nothing in this world was able to scare me, nothing but that horrible sound and the creature behind it.
"What the hell was that?" Tyler asked, with the terrified expression in his face.
"That, my friend..." I said and then I put the gun back in my belt. "... it is your worst nightmare come true."
