Amima knocked the door of Zaina's room. Zee answered it.

"Yes?" she asked impatiently.

"It's time to pray. You want to pray togeth---"

"I'll pray later," Zaina quickly said, cutting her off.

"You want to go to the Masjid? You haven't been there in a long time."

"No."

"Have you opened the Quran lately--"

"We're going somewhere," Zee cut her off. "I'll read over there."

Amima sat in her room and sighed. The house felt so empty without her cousin. Zaina's mother wouldn't be home until evening. Amima wondered where they had gone. She spotted an orange book on a table in the corner, untouched. Amima knew it was the only Quran Zaina owned, which she had not bothered to take. Amima stared at the wall. Maybe she had done something wrong. Maybe she had led Zaina the wrong way somehow. Yet she couldn't remember a time she might have done anything like that.
