❛ He had to protect his family. ❜★
"Please, Hijo, there's got to be something wrong. Just look into the future just this once." A frail old, yet younger than the usually seen Alma Madrigal was clasping her hands together in front of her only son.
"Má.. every time I have a vision, it's ba-" The boy tried to explain yet was interrupted.
"Please Bruno, please." She was on the verge of tears and Bruno hesitated before sighing and turning his head away.
"For this familia," a small smile soon adored his features as he looked back up. Alma let out a relaxed breath as she bent down slightly.
"Thank you."
They split apart from the main room, leaving only the candle on the tabletop flickering.
Bruno headed up the stairs, hesitating before heading towards a specific girl's room.
Stopping before it, he heard sniffling inside, putting his ear next to the frame his heart cracked as he heard his sister, Julieta talking to her daughter. Mirabel.
"Am I broken? Mamá what's w-wrong with me." The younger pulled herself closer to Julieta who could only pat her youngest daughters back in comfort. Quiet sobs of a little girl filled the room.
Shutting the door with a click, he headed towards his tower. A confirmed thought in his mind.
Heading up the thousands of stairs he had, the small tiny bridge, opening the door of his sanded room. Placing around all the tiny objects he needed, he paused.
"Papá, please give me a good prophecy."He whispered.
Sand swirled around the thin man, hair floating in the air as his eyes quietly glowed a sickly green. He started at the vision before him with great hope.
Mirabel, but older, was standing in front of Casita. Bruno smiled, she looked so happy was his wish coming true. He closed his eyes prepared to let the vision fall at his feet. When they snatched open again as he stared wide-eyed at the broken and cracked casita.
"What?" He shouted, sand falling all around him as a Yelp escaped his throat. Covering his hands Over his head as the sand buried him.
A sneeze escaped Bruno's throat as he popped his head out from the sand. Spitting out the excess mineral from his mouth, he moved over to the spot where the vision would've been buried in a panic.
"No, no, no.."
He quickly gripped the corner of the square as he saw the familiar green glow. Pulling it out, Bruno wiped off the sand using the hem of his shirt. Staring in horror at the prophecy in front of him.
When turned one way, casita was alright, the other, it wasn't.
"What the..?" He squinted his eyes, pulling the Vision up close, letting out a hot breath, and wiping the glass with his sleeve.
On top of the cracked Casita, was somebody on the roof of the building. Bruno cautiously turned it to the other side and noticed how much when the girl disappeared from view, Casita was perfect again
Noting her features in his mind incase she was ever seen again, he pulled the vision above his head before throwing it harshly on the ground. Breaking it with a quick stomp.
Shaking the sand out of his hair as he left the tower,
Opening his door he paused at the sight of one of his sobrinas.
"Delores," he said softly, barely having to crouch down to meet the eyes of the young girl.
She had a cup of water in her hand and he almost felt like the grinch at this moment, telling Cindy Lou he was just fixing a tree.
"What were you screaming about?" She asked, doe-eyes wide.
Bruno licked his dry lips nervously, looking away from her gaze. "A prophecy," he stood up straight, trying to not notice how she flinched slightly.
Although who wouldn't, the last vision he gave her about her true love left her crying for hours straight.
"Head to bed," he softly tapped her shoulder and watched as she walked over to her room. Making sure her door closed fully before heading to his next destination.
His Má's door, feet away, hand prepared to knock and tell her about the disappointing prophecy.
He paused him actually briefly. If he were to tell her about what he saw; what would happen to him? Or even Mirabel for that matter?
He promised he would help his family.
Bruno pulled away from the door with clenched teeth, turning around he walked over to the stairs.
Pausing for a second, smartly glancing at Delores door. Peeking in slightly and pulled away once he made sure she was sound asleep.
Quickly walking down the stairs, he frowned, reaching a familiar painting.
Pulling it to the left revealed a small hole that lead into the wood structure of Casita. One in which when he was young he would hide when the headaches became too much.
Bruno pulled the painting back and swiftly started to step inside. Turning around, he watched his home for the last time before closing the hole.
Right above the painting, sat a candle, which quickly flickered before a small crack appeared right under it.
A mother's cry was heard in the morning.
