*Rose's POV*

"H-husband? You're married?" I saw the sadness in his masculine features. I sighed and pulled back my hair into a bun as I begin to tell him my story.

"Was married. My husband died two years ago of cancer." I looked at the flowers around me, tears starting to flow freely. "His name was Matthew but Nathan called him Matty, and Matty called him Nate." I smiled as the tears stained my cheeks, thinking of fond memories. "Matthew was there with me when nate was diagnosed. He asked me to marry him that afternoon. We were only together for 7 years." I wiped my tears away as I thought of his smile, his touch, his smell...All gone. "This morning nate said you looked a lot like him and, in a way, you do. Long black hair, lean body, short stature." I sat there for some time, thinking before I felt a strong set of arms wrap around me. I was shocked Ricky was holding me, but I leaned into his touch.

"Rose, we all have a past. I understand that you don't want me in your life. But I care about you, more than I probably should. You admitted you care for me too. Let me get to know you. Let me just come over, hang out with you and nate, show you I'm a good guy." I shook my head as he said this.

"I don't know if nate will understand...I don't know if you'll understand.." I drifted, biting my lip.

"What is there to understand? We're not dating, we're friends, that's what we tell nate." He brushed back loose stands of my hair.

"You understand I take care of nate, not my parents? You understand I'm a sister, a mom, and a caregiver? You understand nate won't get past a six year old's mentality and that he'll continue to lose his memory until he dies? You understand nate may die in a few years? The doctors say he won't live past ten. Are you ready to go through all this?" I huffed out, looking into his bright blue eyes. They reminded me of an ocean, storm-like and crashing waves. I've never seen the ocean, but I've always wanted to.

He gave me a rather weak smile and kissed my forehead, grabbing my hands and picking me to my feet. We walked down the path as I waited for him to answer me. He continued to hold my hand until we got to the door of my home. He turned and hugged me, whispering in my ear,

"A moment of joy is better than a lifetime of unhappiness."
