*Rose's POV*
I sat on the rather uncomfortable chair next to Chris, my foot tapping continuously as I waited for the lady to call us back. My nerves were getting the best of me. I was jittery and jumpy, the sugary bites of Chris' pancakes not helping me one bit. I felt his hand touch my knee and I looked at him.
"You always tug at the hem of your clothes when you're nervous, and your right leg is always bouncy when you're anxious. I know you better than you think. Try and calm down, it'll all be over soon." He gave me a reassuring smile and I nodded. We sat there for maybe fifteen minutes longer before they called me back. I gripped onto Chris for dear life as they escorted us back to a room.
"We're gonna take your blood pressure, measure your height, and we wanna weigh you." The nurse said politely. I nodded my head as she took my blood pressure first. She then measured my height. I had to take off my platforms which caused me to shrink immensely.
"Your height is five foot." She announced, causing me to blush as I heard Chris chuckle. The nurse smiled at Chris and I, I standing on the scale so she could measure. My heart began to pound as she spoke. "That can't be correct. The scale never lies though. There can't be a glitch, it's industrial." Her eyebrows furrowed.
"What does it say?" I heard Chris from behind me. I closed my eyes and bit my lip, knowing he was going to lose it. "Rosaline!" I knew it. Here he goes... "You cannot be serious? You cannot weigh only 76.3 pounds!" He roared. He was always worried about my weight. I know this frightened him. The nurse quickly wrote the number down and hurried us into a room where only Chris and I could talk until the Doctor came in. I sat on the examination table as Chris looked at me, sorrow in his eyes. "How much does Nathan weigh?"
"Chris..-"
"No Rosaline, how much does Nathan weigh!" He demanded, looking at me with those serious eyes. I muttered an answer but he didn't hear, so he made me say again.
"I said he weighs 82 pounds!" I admitted, folding my hands. He shook his head as he sat down in the chair across from me.
"This has to change Rosaline. This is bad. You're literally shrinking, and the diet you're on isn't helping."
"I know Chris." Just then the doctor walked in, greeting us with a smile.
"You must be Rosaline?" I nodded, shaking his hand.
"Please, call me Rose."
"Well Rose, my name is Dr. Smithson, and I'll be taking care of you today. Is this your husband?" He asked as he shook Chris' hand, causing me to blush scarlet. I shook my head.
"Close friend. I'm a widow. My husband died years ago to cancer." He frowned, taking a seat on his chair.
"I'm sorry for your loss."
"It's alright, happens." I mumbled, catching Chris watch me with a worried look.
"Well Rose, you're heavily emaciated. You're not at a healthy weight for your size. Tell me, what's your routine diet."
"Um, I usually drink water with a lot of fruit for breakfast. Lunch, I rarely eat, but sometimes a salad. Dinner, something such as squid with fried or baked squash, some red wine if desired. It really varies." He nodded, writing this down.
"Any snacks through the day?" I shook my head in a no. He sighed. "This is really going to have to change. I've had my assistant print up a new diet plan for you. More meats, carbs, and fats. Less fruit and vegetables. At least one snack a day, perhaps cheeses. This weight you have is gonna have to change. We can't do anything about the tumor as of now-"
"What? I'm sorry can you repeat that word?" Chris asked, shocked. "Did you just say, tumor?"
"Yes Mr..."
"Cerulli."
"Yes Mr. Cerulli, I did. I thought the both of had already known about it..? It's rather large. The size of a walnut. It's on the outlining of her stomach. That's why she is so thin. It's too small to remove, yet too big to ignore. That's why she must change her diet." I sat there shocked. I didn't talk for the rest of our visit. I couldn't believe it. I had a tumor. First Nathan, then my ex husband, and now me.
What was I going to do? But more importantly, how was I gonna tell Ricky?
