*Rose's Pov*
We pulled into the driveway of a massive cabin-like home. Multiple cars were parked in the front drive, and there was a beautiful lake that crept alongside the house. I was impressed by the beauty in the old home. Nate sat up front beside Ricky and began biting his lip when he saw a group of guys playing basketball. I was worried as well. The first body I saw was Chris. All I kept thinking was that I hoped Chris didn't make a fool of himself or myself. He waved at our car when Ricky honked the horn three times before parking it alongside an old black pickup. He looked over at nate and smiled.
"Don't worry buddy, these guys are gonna love having you around. So will the girls. I can't remember the last time they've hung out with a kid your age." Ricky said, reaching over to ruffle nate's honey-blonde hair. He looked back at me and winked. "You ready?"
I mustered up the best smile possible and nodded, hopping out of the vehicle, only to have nate grab onto my hand. I smiled at him as he grabbed onto my leg nervously. I hip bumped his shoulder so he'd look up and I pulled a face, making him smile a little. Ricky walked around the car and grabbed onto my other hand, leading us towards the house. Chris was walking towards us, a smile dancing on his lips. I could tell the hurt in his eyes when he saw nate and myself.
"Hey bro, good havin you here. The girls are already inside cooking." Chris smiled, hugging Ricky and patting his back. After they backed away, nate realized who the tall man was and shouted.
"Cody!" He pulled away from me and jumped at Chris. Chris' genuine smile turned into a sad one. He already knew nate was losing his memory and he hated it so much. Nate used to love chris. Now he can barely remember him. He picked nate up, hugging him in his big arms.
"My name's Chris, but you did a pretty good job anyway." He said, ruffling nate's hair. "How've you been?" He directed the last question at me. I shrugged my shoulders, keeping my hands knit together.
"I've been okay. Finally got people to sponsor my leather work. I've been co-working with some artists. The usual."
"You know what I meant Rose." He lowered his voice so only I could hear. Ricky had started up a conversation with an unknown gentleman and woman adjacent to us.
"I've fine." I hissed. "The doctor hasn't said anything else about the matter." He gave me a doubtful look, but was cut off when Ricky spoke.
"Rose, this is Josh and his girlfriend, Ryan Ashley. They own this house." I smiled, nodding my head in acknowledgement.
"Lovely to meet the both of you." They smiled and said their hello's. Ryan Ashley smiled at nate.
"Who's this handsome little devil?" She spoke directly to nate.
"I'm Nathan! Who are you? I like your hair! It looks like my Grey fish, Mr. Silverman!" He shouted, leaning over chris' arms to touch her hair. I was about to scold him for not asking first but she just giggled, striking up immediate conversation while Josh spoke with ricky.
"Why thank you! My name is Ryan Ashley. You can call me Ashley if you want. I'm a friend of ricky's." She said, playing with his hair. He climbed out of Chris' arms and into her's. She held him and they continued to talk while Chris nudged my side. I looked up and he began his talk.
"I know you're lying about the doctor. What's wrong?" His eyes were concerned. I huffed and pushed back my hair.
"I can't afford it anymore. Nate's bills kept piling up and now I have to focus on him. The last time I went to a doctor was two years ago. All I know is that I keep losing weight, I'm throwing up a lot, my back hurts, my legs hurt, and my only motivation to keep going, is Nate." I admitted.
